AIRSHIP 27 PODCAST (SEPT '24), PART 2: READY FOR LIFTOFF

The follow-up to Airship 27's Sept/Aug '24 podcast has landed, with Ron Fortier and Rob Davis continuing a rundown of their most recent string of publications.

Comprising the prolific list are such dynamic and diverse titles as Richard Kellogg/Gary Kato's Barry Baskerville and the Stolen Car; Carson Demmons' The Sheriff of Hell; Michael Panush and Charles Santino's Metropolis Resurrected; Glenn Held's The Devil You Know; Gary Lovisi's Warrior of Rigel; Pulp Mythology, Vol 3; I.A. Watson's Sherlock Holmes, Consulting Detective, Vol 20; Darylle Purcell's Geezers, Vol 2; and Ravenwood, Stepson of Mystery, Vol 5 (to which I'm proud to say I contributed).

The guys also commence and cap off their swell presentation with their belly-ticklin' jokes, which of course, are always welcome.

AIRSHIP 27 PODCAST (JAN '19): READY FOR TAKEOFF!!!

A new year commences and so does another fabulous string of Airship 27 podcasts.

Captain Ron Fortier and Chief Engineer Rob Davis set forth the great "shape of things to come" with their Jan '19 installment, discussing such thrilling titles as Wayne Carey's haunting Civil War epic, "Company of Shadows"; "Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective Vol 13"; Robert J. Mendenhall's espionage exploit, "Codename--Intrepid"; plus Ron Fortier and Mark Justice's "Dead Sheriff: Cannibals and Bloodsuckers", along with its Fred Adams sequel (set for a summer release). There's also swell scoops on Captain Hazard, Marty Quade, P.I. and the next "All-Star Sports Stories".

RON FORTIER COMPLETES MARK JUSTICE'S DEAD SHERIFF SEQUEL!!!

Airship 27 Productions' release of Mark Justice's "The Dead Sheriff" was (and still is) a big hit for the New Pulp company, but due to Justice's untimely passing, the completion of the author's sequel fell into Ron Fortier's capable hands, along with the blessing of Justice's dear widow, Norma Kay.

Fortier's writing style does, in fact, blend ideally with Justice's, as the Airship 27 author/publisher helps resurrect the saga of a young Indian called Sam (aka Cheveyo) who possesses the magical means to puppeteer a prodigious corpse to slay bad men and their demonic peers.

In the sensational sequel, "Cannibals and Bloodsuckers", we're introduced to the flesh-feasting Arlo and Billy Belcher and the nomadic, parasitic prostitutes of magnetic Madame Magdala. Along for the ride is gritty Thunderstorm Parker (my favorite of the supporting characters); the flashy, would-be avenger, Silver Paladin and his snippy sidekick, Bullet; the Zorro-like Sidewinder; the handsome but doomed Lariat Smith; the feisty Hattie Fields; the dark-shackled Labine; and Sam's awestruck partner, newsman Richard O'Malley, whose detailed accounts are certain to keep one gripped. However, none can compare to the eponymous, crusty protagonist, who more than rises to the crusading cause.

At its winsome heart, Fortier and Justice's story plays like a monster-rally epic, thanks its many eccentric characters. The strange (though often amusing) interactions recall strands of "Curse of the Undead", "The Living Coffin" (i.e., "El grito de la muerte"), "Bone Tomahawk", "The Hills Have Eyes" and "From Dusk till Dawn", but with an old-time, cowpoke slant that classic-western aficionados will be happy to suckle and devour.

The vivid text is enhanced by Art Cooper's ingenious illustrations, which add extra creepiness to the novel. There's also Zachary Brunner's lurid cover, which captures the bloody panache of the best Euroshock posters.

On all levels, this lively undead package is fated to exceed one's spookiest expectations.

Long live the Dead Sheriff!!!

AIRSHIP 27 PODCAST (NOV '18): READY FOR TAKEOFF!!!

Ah, the autumn winds are in full swing, and so is the latest Airship 27 Podcast, steered by faithful Captain Ron Fortier and Chief Engineer Rob Davis.

This installment is a poignant one, as our gracious hosts pay tribute to Marvel master, Stan Lee. Ron and Rob tell how Stan the Man revitalized the comic-book scene and inspired them to write, publish and illustrate--in addition to giving us all colorful characters and bold adventures we'll cherish for a lifetime. (Their expressed respect for Lee is comforting, especially in light of Bill Maher's derisive remarks on the legend: the sting of which still has many of us bursting at the Hulkian seams.)

Ron and Rob also take time to reference Airship 27's current and upcoming releases, including the major, hot-off-the-press "Bass Reeves: Frontier Marshal, Vol 3": see Nov's "bizarrechats" review. (Incidentally, the Bass Reeves series is one of Airship 27's most popular and demands a whirl, even if by some inexplicable chance one isn't partial to westerns.)

Ron and Rob also discuss the re-release of their powerful novella, "Faces of Fear", which teams the Purple Scar with the Black Bat: see June '17 review. This revised edition will enchant readers like never before, with its polished text and stunning artwork. In my estimation, "Faces of Fear" is one of the most atmospheric crossovers conceived in years. (BTW: The new edition features a prologue from Ron, which reveals his story's nifty Easter Eggs, plus there's the fellows' exciting, comic bonus: "Secret Agent X: Race With the Devil": see Dec '17 review.)

RAVENWOOD, STEPSON OF MYSTERY: AN UPCOMING TALE FROM YOURS TRULY!!!

During the time Ron Fortier was completing his initial read of my "Persona, Vol 2" draft, he suggested that I might take a stab at a "Ravenwood, Stepson of Mystery" adventure.

I agreed to the task, but had to familiarize myself first with Frederick C. Davis' 1930s occult detective: not only absorbing the original, five stories (supplements of "Secret Agent X" magazine), but those adventures written thereafter by Airship 27's assigned authors.

(Incidentally, Ravenwood, who never goes by a first name, has psychic abilities, but is otherwise like Carl Kolchak, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in the way he investigates his peculiar cases.)

I sure had a blast delving into the Ravenwood tales (whether in printed form or via Radio Archives' audio books) and in the process, conceived a yarn entitled, "Kincaid's House of Altered Cats".

I can't reveal the story's content yet, and it'll be a spell before it hits print (Ron must first assign an artist to illustrate the next edition), but as of Vol 4, I'll be an official part of Ravenwood's legacy! Hot damn!

As with "Persona, Vol 2", I'll keep you posted on developments. To say the least, I'm quite excited and proud to be part of this imaginative franchise!!!

Just putting a wee teaser out there, folks, to let you know that Ron Fortier of Airship 27 Productions has accepted "The Persona, Vol 2" for publication. Yippee!!!

To say the least, I'm happy as a lark that Michael Mansford and his ethereal disguise will return for a whole new, hallucinatory jaunt.

I'll keep you posted on developments and unveil the novel's nifty subtitle soon!!!
