AIRSHIP 27 PODCAST (OCT '18): READY FOR TAKEOFF!!!

As autumn expands, the newest Airship 27 Podcast ascends, led again by trusty ol' Captain Ron Fortier and Chief Engineer Rob Davis.

The Oct '18 episode emphasizes Airship 27's scheduled reprint of Art Sippo's refashioned "Sun Koh, Heir of Atlantis". Created by Paul Mueller (aka Lok Myler), Sun Koh is a German, Lovecraftian-swept Doc Savage and as such, a much debated figure due to his time of genesis and the evil attributes which link to such. However, do keep in mind that despite the character's offensive relegation, the Nazis hated pulp heroes and belittled, censored and eventually snuffed the series. (Sun Koh's Lothar-esque partner was, after all, a resourceful, black pugilist.) Sun Koh's re-tuned introduction to Airship 27's New Pulp world is amazing, daring and stirring stupendous curiosity. 

In addition to Sun Koh's revival, Ron and Rob promote the hot-off-the-press "Aviation Aces, Vol 1"; Ron's soon-to-be-released sequel to Mark Justice's "Dead Sheriff" (with Art Cooper, artist of my novel, "Persona Vol 1", currently completing illustrations); and Wayne Carey's ghostly Civil War endeavor, "A Company of Shadows" (with a cover planned by Ash Arceneaux, who delivered the creepy boxing-glove/skull image for my novella, "The Hyde Seed"). The guys also make a passionate pitch for "The Challenger Chronicles": a much anticipated anthology to feature Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "Lost World" adventurer.

MICHAEL F. HOUSEL/AIRSHIP 27 TALES FOR SUMMER READING (AND LISTENING)

On occasion, acquaintances will ask me for summer-reading suggestions. I'm pleased to offer the standards: classics from decades and centuries past, which are always worth a look or revisit. However, if I may be so bold to blow my own, self-promotin' horn...

I penned a couple Airship 27 Production titles, available in paperback and audio form, which might help one weather the heat:

My novella, "The Hyde Seed" presents the struggle of former boxer, Pepe Rodriguez, who comes to battle an opponent unlike any other he's faced--his monstrous self. It's my pugilist tribute to Robert Louis Stevenson's famous tale of duality, with a "Twilight Zone" twist. 

The book sports a dandy Ash Arceneaux cover and captivating illustrations by Pedro Cruz . And for those fancying an audio take, my yarn is performed by the expressive Scott Glennon, courtesy of Radio Archives. 

Then there's my pulp-hero novel, "Enter--the Persona!" (aka, "The Persona, Vol 1"), which details affluent Michael Mansford's ethereal transformation into a pearly-masked crusader of the '30s.

The novel features a striking Shannon Hall cover and crisp Art Cooper illustrations, with the Radio Archives audio edition performed by veteran voice actor, Mark Barnard. 

A sequel to "Enter--the Persona!", entitled "Enter the Green-fleshed Fiends", is set for eventual release by Airship 27, so here's your chance to get a jump on my expanding, New Pulp saga, and what better time than the heart of summer, eh? (BTW: "Enter--the Persona!" is a genuine, warm-weather tale, which makes its recommendation all the more appropriate.)

"The Hyde Seed" has arrived from Airship 27 Productions!!!

I wrote "Hyde Seed" in honor of those offbeat character studies found in "Twilight Zone", "Night Gallery" and "Outer Limits". 

My story focuses on former welterweight, Pepe Rodriguez, a champion-that-could-have-been, who let his chance for glory slip with the loss of love. Pepe now works as a lonesome custodian for Averton Plastics and appears an unassuming enough gent, but he harbors a secret...a demon...a creature...a weed-like Hyde that springs from out his mind. Though Pepe has kept this thing contained for more than a decade, it re-emerges when he's attacked by company thugs. Now the resentful entity plans to do as it pleases, unless the former contender can conjure the confidence to defeat it once and for all.

"Hyde Seed'"s unsettling cover was rendered by Ash Arceneaux.  Pedro Cruz, of "The Amazing Harry Houdini" fame, supplied the story's interior illustrations, and Airship 27's Art Director, Rob Davis, devised its moody back cover.

HYDE SEED: JANUARY 2017 UPDATE

Well, folks, progress on my novella, "The Hyde Seed" (the story of anguished boxer, Pepe Rodriguez), continues, thanks to Ron Fortier and Airship 27 Productions.

Per the December/January Airship Newsletters, "Hyde Seed" is officially in the "flight line" of upcoming releases.

Also, acclaimed illustrator/artist, Pedro Cruz, has been assigned to complete four, interior illustrations for my Jekyll/Hyde modernization. As you may know, Cruz supplied the illustrations for Airship's "Amazing Harry Houdini" and "Towers of Metropolis." Below is an example of Cruz's splendid work.

Anyway, I'm pleased that "Hyde Seed" has entered this significant stretch. I'll supply additional details soon and perhaps even reference those stories, in addition to Robert Louis Stevenson's, which have influenced my weird, psychological tale...

HYDE SEED UPDATE: RON FORTIER'S AIRSHIP 27 TO THE RESCUE!!!

There's been a change in plans, folks: that is, a change in publishers for one of my stories. 

My novella, "The Hyde Seed", was scheduled for print by Caliburn Press, but due to unexpected circumstances (i.e., a series of mishaps, which perhaps I'll detail in the future), Ron Fortier of Airship 27 Productions (publisher of my novel, "Enter--The Persona!") has taken over the title, slating it for a potential 2017 release. (Ash Arceneaux's spectacular artwork, seen above, will still grace the cover, I'm ecstatic to report.)

"The Hyde Seed" depicts the uncanny journey of a woeful welterweight named Pepe Rodriguez, who must come to terms with his most merciless opponent--himself!  

My Robert Louis Stevenson tribute contains plot elements inspired by "The Twilight Zone", "Night Gallery" and "The Outer Limits": an offbeat character study, therefore, in heart and soul. 

I'll keep you posted on developments as they come forth; and I thank Captain Ron from the bottom of my heart for his courageous intervention. 

THE HYDE SEED--COVER SNEAK PEEK!!!

Here it is folks: from the imaginative mind of Ash Arceneaux...the cover for my upcoming Caliburn Press novella...THE HYDE SEED!!! (As you may recall, Arceneaux created the creepy cover for my monster-rally tale, FLASK OF EYES.)

Arceneaux's imagery for THE HYDE SEED represents my lead character well: a rising welterweight called Pepe Rodriguez, who throws it all away in the name of unrequited love...well, more or less. Pepe, like most of us, struggles with an inner demon: a spawn of heartbreak and self-doubt, which in his case, springs from out his battered brain to establish its own insidious existence.

Can Rodriguez defeat the horrid thing he's sown? Only time will tell, but until my Robert Louis Stevenson tribute reaches print, I trust Arceneaux's wicked artwork will more than than fill the gap. 

Flask of Eyes Update #3

Well, here it is, my good people (drum roll, please)...Ash Arceneaux's bizarrely alluring cover for my novel, "Flask of Eyes", scheduled for upcoming release via Damnation Books. Ash did a magnificent job in rendering an image that inexorably harnesses the senses and eloquently represents my offbeat tale. To say the least, I'm deliriously satisfied!!!
