You always made me chuckle, spewing old-time jokes and staging silly skits, often with your wisenheimer puppet, Oogie.
The Uncle Floyd Show was child-like, but with a Vaudevillian twist, which showcased such sprightly sidekicks as Looney Skip Rooney, Scott Gordon, Artie Delmar, Mugsy, Weenie and Netto, who tickled the funny bone with their goofy traits.
Even John Lennon, David Bowie and Iggy Pop were big fans, and big names appeared on your set, including Peter Tork, Marshall Crenshaw, Chubby Checker, Linda Blair, Paul Simon, the Ramones and Bob Geldof with the Boomtown Rats.
This notoriety landed you notable roles in Mr. Wonderful with Matt Dillan and Annabella Sciorra; Good Morning, Vietnam with Robin Williams and Forest Whitaker; Crazy People, with Dudley Moore and Daryl Hannah; and Big Money Hustlas with Insane Clown Posse, as well as on the television shows, Law & Order, Cosby, 100 Centre Street and the soap opera, Loving. (You were also a steadfast presence on Vincent Pastore's popular podcast, The Wiseguys Show.)
As your fans well know, you were a skilled piano player and singer, and demonstrated this in Crazy People with your joyful tune, "Hello." And your popular parody, "Deep in the Heart of Jersey," should have become the state's official anthem or in the very least, commenced any number of boorish bureaucratic meetings.
You made viewers feel like friends and family, and for decades, that was your mission. You succeeded big time, Uncle Floyd, becoming one of Jersey's favorite sons, spreading our collective (if not unapologetic) heart and soul for all the world to see and love.
