COLLECTIBLE TIME: MEGO'S FACE OF THE SCREAMING WEREWOLF/CHANEY (RED SHIRT)

I posted earlier this month on the Christmas gift Mel gave me: Mego's 8", Lon Chaney Jr., Face of the Screaming Werewolf, action figure, sporting a blue-flannel shirt. I mentioned in the post that there was also a red-shirted version, and good ol' Mel followed through on such, purchasing one for my birthday.

As with the blue-shirted version, the detail here (as seen through the bubble-card encasement) is impressive, commemorating Chaney's persona as represented in the Mexican, monster movie, The House of Terror, which was later incorporated into Jerry Warren's Face of ... bash-up, which used parts of his Aztec Mummy variant, Attack of the Mayan Mummy. In truth, Chaney didn't look much different from his iconic, Universal lycanthrope (Larry Talbot in non-furry form), so for all intent, this Mego collectible could just as well be taken for the classic Wolfman.

For Face of ... Chaney's character emerges first as a mummy, giving his Kharis portrayal a nod. In this regard, it would be great if Mego produced an action figure based on Chaney's Mexican, mummy knockoff, as well, but for now, I'm more than content with my double-whammy werewolves. Thanks, Mel, for installing this set in my macabre world!
