SALLY THE ZOMBIE CHEERLEADER'S A GHOUL'S GUIDE TO HORROR: SLEEPAWAY CAMP

Sally the Zombie Cheerleader's latest A Ghoul's Guide to Horror slashes apart 1983's carnage-wracked Sleepaway Camp

Some consider Sleepaway Camp an unmitigated, camp (pun intended) classic and one accessorized by the many sporty fashions of its time. In addition to acknowledging its stately apparel, Sally breaks down other reasons why the film is revered, while spotlighting its writer/director, Robert Hiltzik and his avid characters for her horror-history lesson.

If the truth be known, it's Felicia Rose's Angela who steals the show, since her persecution by Camp Arawak's kids make her at once sympathetic and dangerous. In some ways, Angela is comparable to Betsy Palmer's Pamela Voorhees, but maybe more so, Anthony Perkins' Norman Bates. In truth, Sleepaway Camp's twisty situation recalls both Friday the 13th and Psycho, and to an equal degree Homicidal and Deadly Blessing, in particular during its final minutes.

Sally's seminar is detail-oriented, so that those who appreciate the production won't feel compelled to apologize for it, and those learning about it for the first time may feel compelled to give it a whirl.
