The next volume of Eighth Tower's Dark Fiction series will cater to director/writer David Lynch, in particular his Twin Peaks tapestry.
My contribution to the cause is called "The Greater Goo" (yes, a play upon the phrase "the greater good").
For my story, I was inspired by the tree-like "arm" of Twin Peaks' sequel series, along with the Eraserhead baby, but also drew from sources beyond Lynch, including Joseph Payne Brennan's short story, "Slime," its cinematic counterpart, The Blob, and The Prisoner's Rover (three sources which inspired my Purple Scar tale, "Golem Clay," though in a much different way).
"The Greater Goo" also pulls from Todd Solondz's Welcome to the Doll House, which captures the gritty, anguished side of adolescence.
The yarn's ingredients are, to say the least, eclectic and I believe strange enough to fit Lynch's unaligned, storytelling style.
I'll share more on my fable's progression in future posts. For now, stay tuned.
