FILMFAX #153: A NEW FIVE OUNCE TON OF INTELLIGENT FUN!!!
Check out Filmfax #153: another glorious, nostalgic gem!!!
Alas, this one was a toughie to seize (even with my subscription in full swing), but well worth the wait, with an engrossing article on revered, science-extrapolation artist, Chesley "Destination Moon" Bonestell (including a fond focus on Douglass M. Stewart Jr.'s documentary tribute, "A Brush with the Future"); and interviews with character-actor idols, Rad Fulton (aka Jim Westmoreland) and Pat "Horror High/"Twisted Brain" Cardi; plus "Monsters! Monsters! Everywhere!"
There's also inspiring coverage on those handy, movie death rays (Chapter 6, no less); the legendary Stan "the Man" Lee (take that, Bill Maher!); the "Sire of Splatter", Herschell Gordon Lewis; and childlike filmmaker Edward D. Wood Jr.'s frisky fiction.
Snatch a copy of Filmfax #153 while the chance is in view. This one's far too important to forgo.

FILMFAX #152: A NEW FIVE OUNCE TON OF INTELLIGENT FUN!!!
Filmfax #152 creeps forth for the Halloween '18 season, with a fantastic Drew Friedman cover, commemorating John Zacherle (aka Roland). To accompany the spooky cover, #152 contains an absorbing article by Jan Alan Henderson, essaying the Cool Ghoul's horror-hosting impact on pop culture.
To further Friedman's contribution, the acclaimed illustrator gives us a trip down memory lane, explaining how he came to draw all those legendary, horror actors. This is matched by Christopher M. O'Brien's insightful interview with the late, comic-book legend, Fred Kida, documenting the master's contributions to horror, science fiction and action/adventure through the glorious Golden and Bronze Ages.
Then there's Anthony Petkovich's revealing interview with Janet Leigh's "Psycho" body double, Marli Renfro, which uncovers her super sexy, cinematic and pin-up legacy.
Petkovich also dishes us a devilish interview with the late, great Grandfather of Gore, Herschell Gordon Lewis, where the writer/director/entrepreneur highlights his early life and notorious films.
To bridge these swell submissions, there's more death-ray coverage (courtesy of editor/publisher Mike Stein); a futuristic-car pictorial; movie/book reviews; and all those awe-inspiring, behind-the-scenes photos that readers have come to expect from their forever faithful periodical.
Pick up your copy of #152 today at your favorite book store, kiosk or online source.

FAREWELL, HERSCHELL GORDON LEWIS...
You were one of a kind for sure, Mr. Lewis, redefining the horror genre, mixing ultra-gore with far-out humor.
The likes of "Blood Feast", "Two Thousand Maniacs" and "Color Me Blood Red", to name the earliest, trendsetting entries in what became your long-lasting, horror saga, have inspired me no end, particularly in my writing. Your showmanship was also unsurpassed: a blueprint for all young filmmakers to follow, even though it's unlikely they'll ever match your macabre wonderment.
