SO LONG, STUART WHITMAN...

You had a long and illustrious career, being as fruitful as an actor could hope to be.

On the horror, thriller and science-fiction scenes, you augmented such favorites as "Ruby"; "Eaten Alive" (aka "Death Trap"); "Night of the Lepus"; "The Omega Cop"; "Signpost to Murder"; "Trial by Jury"; "Shock Treatment"; "The Mark"; "Horror Safari" (aka "Invaders of the Lost Gold"); "Guyana, Cult of the Damned"; "Demonoid"; "City Beneath the Sea"; and "The Monster Club".

For DC fans, you were a stupendous Jonathan Kent on "Superboy" and for western aficionados, you shined as Marshal Jim Crown on "Cimarron Strip".

Your other roles were as adventurous and influential and include "Call Him Mr. Shatter" (aka "Shatter); "The Day and the Hour"; "The Longest Day"; "The Comancheros"; "Rio Conchos"; "Once Upon a Texas Train"; "The White Buffalo"; "The Decks Ran Red"; "Sands of the Kalahari"; "These Thousand Hills"; "The Invisible Six"; "The Last Escape"; "Moving Target"; "Revenge!"; "The Woman Hunter"; "Mob Boss"; "Second Chances"; "The Seekers"; "Captain Apache"; "7 Men From Now"; "Convicts 4"; "10 North Frederick"; "Silver Load"; "The Fiercest Heart"; "Hell Bound"; "Welcome to Arrow Beach"; "Mean Johnny Barrows"; "Johnny Trouble"; "Treasure of the Amazon"; "Deadly Intruder"; "The Girl in the Black Stockings"; "Las Vegas Lady"; "Hound-Dog Man"; "The President's Man"; and "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines".

On the guest-starring, small screen, you made as fine an impression, appearing on such favorites as "Highway Patrol"; "Night Gallery"; "The Roy Rogers Show"; "Death Valley Days"; "The A-Team"; "Matt Houston"; "The Master"; "Fantasy Island"; "Love American Style"; "Simon and Simon"; "Murder She Wrote"; and "Knight Rider".

You were compassionate yet gritty in every one of your roles, Mr. Whitman: paramount to cinema and essential to your fans. Your loss is a great one, but your quality work will endure, ensuring your status as one of the amicable, tried-and-true greats.
