TRICK 'R TREAT EXHUMED!: FATHOM EVENTS (OCT 14 & 16)

Trick 'r Treat, the 2007, intertwining, cult curation, returns to cinemas on October 14 & 16 via Fathom Events (remastered in glorious 4K).

Written, directed and produced by imagi-movie veteran Michael Dougherty (with a coproduction contribution from X-Men/Superman Returns trailblazer Bryan Singer), the Creepshow-ish Trick 'r Treat even gained a FEARnet back-to-back marathon years ago, akin to A Christmas Story. However, it's been a spell since it's gnawed at the big screen, so its return is more than welcome.

The Pulp Fiction-inspired juxtaposing of tales consists of a principal who poisons a candy-stealing brat (and dares to stash the body); the plight of a woeful, werewolf virgin and the beautiful beguilers who deal a rueful comeuppance; a ghastly plot to kill the town's "special" children; and a guilt-ridden bus driver (linked to the latter) who's hounded by a pesky, little, costumed creature named Sam (an enforcer of Halloween rules and rituals, who's featured throughout each fable, as well as the slasher-steered prologue).

Trick 'r Treat sometimes plays like an all-out lampoon, but its disturbing, moral-based themes give its audience cause to pause when the gore gushes and the blood splatters.

To underscore the carnage, the cast performs an upright job with all the required prompts and reactions. It consists of Dylan Baker, Anna Paquin, Leslie Bibb, Brian Cox, Moneca Delain, Laura Lynn Smith, Rochelle Aytes, Connor Christopher Levins and Brett Kelly, among others who invest enough quirky devilishness throughout the blending spread to guarantee that Trick 'r Treat emerges as a wicked ride like no other.

Get into the Halloween spirit by seeing this seasonal classic on the big screen. (Check local listings for theaters and showtimes to ensure you don't miss the spinetingling fun.)
