SO LONG, DREW STRUZAN

For decades you commemorated the best of Universal and RKO's ghastly, embittered and vengeful, capturing the past to mark the present, ensuring it would bleed into the future.

The Frankenstein Monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, the Wolf Man, Dracula, the Mummy, the Phantom of the Opera, the Creature from the Black Lagoon and King Kong entered your commemorative ranks, but you also rendered other exceptional emblems, which tickled the fancy of eager cinema buffs.

The list of subjects is quite long and most impressive: Back to the Future, Star Trek, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Indiana Jones, Alice Cooper, E.T., John Rambo, Snake Plissken, DC & Marvel Superheroes, He-Man, Hellboy, The Muppets, *batteries not included, The Neverending StoryDreamscape, John Carpenter's The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, LadyhawkeSquirm, Empire of the Ants, The Incubus, The OutingThe Shawshank Redemption, The Green MileMallrats, Car Wash, Risky Business, Johnny DangerouslyThe Flintstones, Return to OzThe Goonies, Hook, Cutthroat Island, The Pirates of PenzanceRobin and MarianThe Name of the Rose, Police Academy, Hocus Pocus ... and Coming to America

If the truth be known, your visions were as provocative as the movies and characters they represented. For some, they were an important part of their childhoods, raising keen interest in upcoming releases. For others, they came to adorn walls, admired for the memories they invoked.

In any case, you made them all count, Mr. Struzan, through high respect and amazing, fine detail, and in them, your spirit shall live for as long as folks love the subjects you represented, and trust me, that'll be a long, long time.
