My story, "Medusa Reinvented," will be part of the contents, along with other towering contributions. This post features three, prime examples from artists Jay Mooers, Steve Shipley and Keith Newsome.

Zorro rides (and swipes his iconic "Z") again in the dynamic anthology, Zorro's Exploits (from Bold Venture Press, edited by Audrey Parente). The volume places Johnston McCulley's legendary vigilante in a new queue of soaring adventures, tipped by a dashing, Duncan Regher/Patrice Martinez-inspired cover by Francisco Silva, along with accompanying artwork by not only Silva, but Sora Almasay; Michael Grassia; Rick Celano; Phil Latter; Perego; Aleena Valentine-Lopez; Rich Harvey; Steve Shipley; and Rob Davis (the latter two familiar names among my posts).

DeCandido; Don Everett Smith Jr; Patrick Thomas; Bret Bouriseau; and my dear friend and mentor, Ron Fortier!
As Bizarrechats readers darn well know, in addition to publishing Airship 27's New Pulp offerings with Rob Davis, Fortier is the mastermind behind the Boston Bombers, Brother Bones, Black Lion, Mr. Jigsaw and Lady Action, in addition to having contributed stories to Popeye, Rambo, the Terminator, Peter Pan, the Green Hornet, the Purple Scar, the Black Bat and Athena Voltaire.
Fortier's story, "The Road to Penance", is a dandy jaunt, in which Zorro and his stalwart pal, Bernardo, must retrieve the kidnapped Father Herrera from the merciless Texan Jack. The path to that rescue gallops with all the vivaciousness that one could except from the Californian crusader, and Fortier even inserts good ol' Sgt. Garcia along the way to give his exploit some old-school Disney flair.

Artist/author Steve Shipley, the genius behind The Space Sheriff and Drillbit, hits it out of the park yet again with his magnificent The 7th Guard.
The 7th Guard tells of brave officers from the realm of Golden Blue, who are assigned to protect Earth from any possible invasion.
In the initial issue, focus falls upon the Fifth Guardian and his comedic companion, Copenstrum, who cross paths with a distressed young lady, just as a rampaging, Sinterion robot enters the scene. I praised Steve Shipley's Space Sheriff #1, and I'm doing the same for #2. In fact, the sequel holds even more engrossing, fish-out-of-water melodrama than the first, thanks to Shipley's sardonic storytelling and expressive artwork.
This time our space traveler, aka Captain Davis, rejoins Sarah and Grand Dad after his laser blaster falls into the hands of vile men. The mishap prompts those of Davis' galactic league to intervene, but not without further peril ensuing.

Steve Shipley is one of the most prolific illustrators working today, and he has a dandy new submission to add to his long, out-of-this-world line: Space Sheriff #1.
This UFO (United Fanzine Organization) entry revolves around an amnesiac astronaut who ends up stranded in the Old West, only to be found and nurtured by an Indian maiden named Sara and her principled Grandad. The space man soon discovers the two are facing contention from the icy One Eyed Jones and his ruthless henchmen and fortifies his hero status by standing up to the adamant aggressors.
The melodrama is tense, the artwork fantastic, and the characterizations identifiable, making Space Sheriff #1 a top-notch start to what will no doubt be a grandiose saga. I, for one, can't wait for Issue #2.
