MAIN'S GREEK MYTHOLOGY #2: MORE ON DIONYSUS VIA NEWSOME

Several posts prior, I shared a couple, sneak-peek illustrations from artist Keith Newsome for my upcoming story, "The Arrangement: A Dionysus Fable," to be included in Main Enterprises' Tales From Greek Mythology #2. For this post, I present two additional examples.

The top illustration depicts a woeful aunt and uncle, some time after the the tale's protagonists have left their farm to pursue Dionysus' favors. This splendid image is followed by a confrontational one, in which three of the leads are featured (plus one guest star), but to convey its particular ramifications would spoil the outcome.  

Nevertheless, all will come clear, since Tales From Greek Mythology #2 will soon be constructed and even include more of Verl Holt Bond's Set Sail!, a Jason & the Argonauts serial-strip, which has gained great praise since #1's advent. Stay tuned. 

MAIN'S GREEK MYTHOLOGY#2: KEITH NEWSOME SNEAK PEEK

Above and below are sneak-peek illustrations that Keith Newsome rendered for my Tales From Greek Mythology #2, Dionysus fable. 

As most will recall, Newsome supplied the detailed imagery for my "Medusa Reinvented," featured in #1.

Newsome's artistic abilities are awe-inspiring, and indeed, the visual aspects of #2 are truly taking flight, especially when one considers that Verl Bond's Jason & the Argonauts' Set Sail! is also part of the package.

TALES FROM GREEK MYTHOLOGY #2: JASON & DIONYSUS

Main Enterprises' Tales from Greek Mythology #2 is in the works. It'll feature more of Verl Holt Bond's outstanding, Jason & the Argonauts reboot, Set Sail! (again adorned by Thomas Ahearn lettering), as well as a Dionysus story from me. 

I must admit, I've never been fond of Dionysus or for that matter, Pan, since they both exemplify a playful indolence that I abhor. However, I did reference Pan in my "Medusa Reinvented" story for #1, and I found the means incorporate Dionysus' philosophy into a cautionary tale for #2.

The result is more of an Aesop fable than one of Greek heroics, but I'm anticipating it'll work. My wife, Donna, likes the story very much, and that, in itself, is a substantial endorsement for me.

Anyhow, more on Tales From Greek Mythology #2 will be sailing forth. Stay tuned.

MAIN ENTERPRISES' DARK CORRIDOR REVIVAL

Back in the day, Main Enterprises produced a fiction periodical called Dark Corridor: The Magazine of Horror, Fantasy and Suspense Fiction. (Above is a shot of #4's captivating cover.) 

Jim Main plans to revive Dark Corridor in 2025. I'll be in that upcoming issue, with an urban-horror tale entitled "All in Good Time."

I'm excited for the revival and as always, will keep Bizarrechats readers abreast of the publication's progress.

Main Enterprises' The Screening Room #2 is set for release this year. The contents will cater to Irwin Allen's fantastic, television series.

MAIN ENTERPRISES' MAKE MINE MONSTERS #4: KAIJU FRANKENSTEIN PREVIEW PICS

Here's something to wet readers' appetites for Main Enterprises' Make Mine Monsters #4: kaiju illustrations to accompany my article, "Gargantuas, Frankenstein Style."

The vivid images are a team-up endeavor by artists Troy Boyle and Marc Haines, one commemorating Frankenstein Conquers the World (Frankenstein vs Baragon) and the other, War of the Gargantuas (Frankenstein's Monsters: Sanda vs Gaira). 

To add to the excitement, Make Mine Monsters #4 is edging ever closer to completion. Updates to follow ... 

JIM MAIN/VERL BOND'S THE ADVENTURES OF CLAY HITCHENS #2

The Adventures of Clay Hitchens, written by Jim Main and illustrated by Verl Holt Bond (with color enhancements by Bob Sodaro and title-design by Marc Haines), has catapulted me into cowboy heaven. I assumed the second issue would be as good as the first, but better? Aw-shucks, come on ...

Thanks, in particular, to Jim Main's "Baptism of Fire," this 36-page submission is one of those rare, superior sequels, with even better dialogue, lusher imagery and deeper, bounty-hunter reflection (as Hitchens relays his escapades to the mindful J.B. Sweetwater). It hooks one from start to finish, all anchored by the fabled yet credible town of Miller Falls.

For this fiery chapter, Main throws the spotlight on Hitchens' bout with the bank-robbing, LeGrange Gang. This leads Hitchens and Sheriff Baker to form a posse to snare the double-dealing antagonists, though in full, High Noon fashion, the Black Stallion patrons snub the offer. But fear not, for the lawmen do come to enlist a couple brave souls to comprise a Rio Bravo-styled ensemble. From there, a showdown with the gang escalates with unremitting tension. 

The plot also holds a crafty ploy involving a glib "salesman," and the brawny Isiah Hammer steals the show several times throughout. (I believe he's my favorite in this issue's guest-starring roster.)

The door is wide open for another exciting exploit and many more after that. I sure hope Issue #3 gallops forth soon, and if J.B. Sweetwater's reunion with a fetching lass is any indication, the rollicking best is yet to come! Yee-haw!

Main Enterprises' Smorgasbord: Comics That Will Fill You Up!! #1 constitutes an eclectic gathering which exceeds the likes of Mad, National Lampoon, Cracked and even the quirky Far Side, as Floydman Sumner's monster-ized cover celebrates and epitomizes.

MEDUSA & CRUSOE SUBMITTED

I'm proud to report that I've completed two, exciting pieces for Main Enterprises, one for *PPFSZT! #52 and the other for Sci-Fi Shall Not Die, Vol 2, #2. 

*PPFSZT! #52 will cater to Greek mythology, and for that curation, I've composed a Medusa tale, which analyzes the consistent retooling of her legend. 

Sci-Fi Shall Not Die #2, is Mars oriented, with plenty of War of the Worlds material slated. My contribution is on Robinson Crusoe on Mars, which was, in fact, helmed by War of the Worlds 1953's director, Byron Haskin. 

With sixty years having passed, many of Robinson Crusoe on Mars' production details have turned hazy, but I do trust I've confirmed the essentials to satisfy the movie's many fans. 

Jim Main and Bob Sodaro will format both issues with photos and illustrations. I've no doubt that *PPFSZT! #52 and Sci-Fi Shall Not Die #2 will be two, additional winners among their perennial accomplishments.
