*PPFSZT! #51: DEVILISH SCI-FI

By Jim Main's special request, I'm composing a story for *PPFSZT! #51. The issue will be steered toward Space Age science fiction, and as such, my tale will reflect the endeavors of that entertaining period. 

My submission will also hold a creature that's close to my heart, since it's said to reside in my backyard, but I've twisted the folklore a tinge.

I can't reveal the actual angle, but think along the lines of Gamma-One's Snow Devils. Also, think of The Six Million Dollar Man's Bionic Bigfoot, but the specimen I've highlighted isn't yeti or sasquatch. Does it spring from Area 51, a planet that might be mistaken for Hell or a hodgepodge of myths? In this regard, is my fable an Event Horizon, Galaxy of Terror, Stargate, Battlestar Galactica or Alien-prequel knockoff? Maybe one or the other or all or none of the above. Ah, only time will tell.

PUBLICATION (EX)CHANGE: FEAR THE WIDOW

  

Alas, Main Enterprises fell short on submissions for the proposed, Apogee revival, thus putting the magazine on the indefinite backburner. 

However, all is not lost, for my Apogee story, "Fear the Widow", will now appear in *PPFSZT! #50! Hey, that works for me, especially if my yarn is part of the zine's big 5-0; and to strengthen "Widow'"s advent, artist Kevin Duncan will supply a couple illustrations. (One may recall that Duncan bestowed an amazing, crossover illustration for my article on Last Man On Earth/Omega Man for What Ever! #3.)

"Fear the Widow" is a revamp of a story I wrote decades ago for Magical, Literary Elixirs, under the title, "The Tormented". (I also performed this version for the audio anthology, Tales From the Grave.)

"Fear the Widow" is tighter and more menacing than its original incarnation, but like the first, still exudes a Night Gallery/Tales From the Darkside vibe. Also, as one will no doubt infer (I mean, how can one dismiss this post's imagery?), it features a lady arachnid: a supernatural one, at that.

*PPFSZT! #46: FANZINE FUN FROM MAIN ENTERPRISES

PPFSZT! #46 (Fall 2020) is the latest submission from the prolific Main Enterprises and contains captivating comic worlds, headlined by the Beacon; his arch-enemy, Ima-Man; and straight outta the '70s, Mister Ecology, confronting that cunning, character-summoning villain, Comictron in a sizzling, Superstar spectacular!!!

To bring the enclosed tales of conflict to life, a excellent ensemble lends its services: Stephen Keeter; Steve Lafler; Marc Haines; Mike Canuel; Steve Shipley; Carl Taylor and George Lane III. (Isn't Lane's colorful cover beyond awesome?!) Their collective effort gives #46 a fanzine flair that's modern, while at the same time respectful of the past (combining, that is, new and reprint sources.) 

*PPFSZT'! #46's irreverent and cutting-edge action matches the likes of Deadpool, Doom Patrol and Harley Quinn, taking readers into energetic, mind-warping and amusing scenarios. Watch out, Marvel/DC (even though this issue does pay several homages to the former). 

*PPFSZT! #45 is, in this regard, a bodacious blast and a half that should be part of any serious collector's library.
