Director Sam (Evil Dead/Darkman) Raimi's Spider-man trilogy, starring Tobey Maguire as the titular web-slinger, aka Peter Parker of the Daily Bugle, returns to the big screen, thanks to Fathom Fan Favorites.
The initial, Columbia Tristar/Sony blockbuster will premiere on 9/26 & 10/3; Spider-man 2 (the extended, 2.0 version) will be shown on 9/27 and 10/4; with Spider-man 3 seizing the spotlight on 9/28 and 10/5. (Check your local listings for theaters and showtimes.)
These exciting entries were discussed and praised back in the day, and if the truth be known, the interest has never waned, for the trilogy paved the way for the MCU's Avengers franchise, as well as two additional, Spidey incarnations, one starring Andrew Garfield and the other, Tom Holland.
But getting back to Maguire, the lad sure knew how to use his "radioactive" charm. The same can be said of his costars and their complementing characters: Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson, Cliff Robertson as Uncle Ben Parker, Rosemary Harris as Aunt May Parker, J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn/the Green Goblin, James Franco as Harry Osborn/Goblin Jr./"Hobgoblin", Alfred Molina as Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus, Topher Grace as Eddie Brock/Venom and Thomas Hayden Church as Flint Marko/the Sandman.
Each character-enriched entry dissects and accentuates Parker's moral compass, giving him the attributes that embody Steve Ditko and Stan Lee's proud and practical philosophy: "With great power comes great responsibility."
Indeed, young people today could learn a lot from that profound adage, and the Raimi/Maguire trilogy holds the precise, ethical empowerment to convey Spider-man's commitment to such. So, be wise and take the kids to (re)experience this amazing, threefold event. Trust me, nothing but superheroic good can come of it.
