COLLECTIBLE TIME: NECA SOLDIER GORILLA & BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES T-SHIRT

Through my reckless yet eagle-eyed travels, I gained a couple new collectibles, based on 20th Century Fox's original, Planet of the Apes franchise, the first being a 7", NECA, "Ultimate Action Figure" Soldier (Infantry) Gorilla.

The Soldier Gorilla is lifted from the 1968 original, movie classic (though would work as well to represent its initial sequel and "final" chapter). As with all NECA action figures, this one is breathtakingly detailed, housed with three heads (sporting subtle, nuanced features); alternate hand; rifle; gun; catching pole (for rounding up those wild humans), attachable backpack; utility (over-the-shoulder) belt; and two clubs, with the figure colored in black, purple, brown and tan.

The window/flap-box packaging is ideal for displaying the Soldier Ape (if one wishes to keep him MIB), its front graphics culled from the "Go Ape" poster artwork that promoted the 1973, drive-in marathons of all five Apes pictures. Ah, what sweet, simian nostalgia!

In addition to the NECA Soldier Ape, I obtained a Kekevo, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, black t-shirt, featuring the successful, 1970 sequel's prime, Japanese poster.

On it, one finds James Gregory's General Ursus, Charlton Heston's Taylor, James Franciscus' Brent, Linda Hamilton's Nova and the imposing (and no less, bleeding), Lawgiver statue, with a fiery backdrop that captures the essence of Paul Dehn's cataclysmic vision.

I'm lucky to have gained these specialties, for they come from a franchise that's enthralled me since I was a blissful child. GO APE!!!
