ADARKAH IANQU'S SYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM: SOOTHING SOUNDS PER TENSION

Adarkah Ianqu's electronic experimentation keeps coming--and morphing. The latest is a tight-knit queue called sympathetic nervous system, which supplies seven selections of emotional states, formulated to coax, appease and above all, irritate. 

The album's opening track, "poros and penia" presents an exotic, peppy drumbeat that sparks juxtaposing realms. The selection is fancy but full of discourse, shoving cognition down hills and valleys that not even the hippest behaviorist would touch.

The jolting "jo mojo" follows, its echoes more submerged in its fly-swatting strokes, but no less enlightening for the despair: another epic lead-in for the emotional excrement to come. 

"Unlimited libido" is a rebellious response, which for all its implied doom, thrives with profane insinuation. One pops with the sinful spin, but comes out clean as a puritanical whistle. 

For the sake of instilling some comatose samples, "ziati" and "silent sheep" churn a hearty, pied-piper thread. Their buzz burns into the muddled mind, enough to make one panic, but there one remains, marching to the beat of that same effervescent, one-trick drum.

To ram the final nails into the pounding culmination, "dwa" and "three days and tonight" elicit suicidal wrath, though never take the vain, fatal plunge. Instead, these tracks rotate like mad machinery, ramming themselves into the ground if only to prove that no self-destructive cycle can be undone. 

After listening to sympathetic nervous system, one will realize that no matter how intense one's insanity becomes, Ianqu's sounds are there to cloak, provoke and when all else fails, understand:

Beyond any doubt, I've become more insightful for each and every startling view. 

Your contributions to macabre, popular culture are unmatched, Mr. Marins, as are your unique, philosophical views. In this regard, you taught me to see and divide the ramifications of good and evil on levels I could have never ever envisioned, making you a teacher and scholar I will continue to hold near and dear to my dark, receptive heart.

Collection Recommendation: Mr. Lobo's Cinema Insomnia (Set 5) on Alpha DVD

Alpha Video presents another set of "Mr. Lobo's Cinema Insomnia" discs!!!

First up is the ghostly-dare/skeleton-hoisted favorite, William Castle's "House on Haunted Hill", starring the super-sinister Vincent Price.

This 1959, nightmarish hit never grows old. In fact, it seems to get better with each view. Now with Mr. Lobo on board, it becomes all the more enjoyable, since our sardonic host interjects it with related tongue-in-cheek tidbits and bodacious bridges, including a handy, jack-o'-lantern decorating seminar and a nice and snooty Ben Cooper fashion show. (Also, as an informative bonus, this special DVD release contains a historic, tip-top exchange between Mr. Lobo and the late, great Sid Haig!!! Whoa!!!)

In addition to the "Haunted Hill" release, Mr. Lobo pays a comedic, live-audience, guest-jammed tribute to Tom Graeff's "Teenagers from Outer Space": a low-budget labor of love that's heavy on character, not to mention flesh-disintegrating death rays.

In this instance, Earth is visited by young, intergalactic aliens on a mission to pepper the planet with colossal lobsters as a food supply. One of their crew, the compassionate Derek (David Love), becomes smitten with a pretty earthling named Betty (Dawn Anderson) and from there, the fiendish invasion can't help but go awry. 

Mr. Lobo supplements the film's intrigue with dry jest and fantastic fillers, making this 1959 drive-in classic all the classier.
