Writer Ron Fortier & artist Rob Davis (courtesy of Redbud Studio) have just released the third compelling chapter of The Boston Bombers.

For the unaware, The Boston Bombers stars a female, aerial troop that assists the Catholic Church on surreptitious missions. To differentiate this saga, its backdrop depicts Christ as a female, who's been accepted by the Jews as their Messiah. In addition, WWII never occurred, and the Roman Empire has reigned as the definitive world power for centuries. 

In the latest chapter, "A Mother's Blessing," Bombers leader Indra Divine learns a startling truth about Princess Kumana, who's being hunted by Senator Rufus Iturius' hired assassin. According to her mother, Bishop Pirelle Divine, Indra and the princess are, in fact, stepsisters.

From this, a flashback unfolds, where the bishop details her affair with the married Senator Tiberious Kumana. However, the love component isn't staged to instill a sappy segue. The union supplies vital background for the saga, while prompting heightened guilt, shame and commitment within a distinct, Catholic context, making Fortier's latest, Boston Bombers chapter his most complex to date.

FORTIER & DAVIS' THE BOSTON BOMBERS #2: THE ALTERNATE-HISTORY SAGA CONTINUES

 

Writer Ron Fortier and artist Rob Davis continue their inventive, Boston Bombers saga in Issue #2, from Redbud Studio. 

This release is, in fact, a revival of a popular title that Fortier conceived many years ago, of which the late Harlan Ellison was a fan. The adventure depicts a group of female, secret agents for the Catholic Church, working in cahoots with the League of Nations, a world power in Fortier's parallel scheme.   

To add to The Boston Bombers' unique flavor, its foundation depicts Christ having manifested as a female, who's accepted by the Jews as their unequivocal Messiah. In addition, WWII never occurred, and the Roman Empire has continued its governing influence over the centuries. 

For the second, Boston Bombers installment, readers are treated to a magical prelude on the first (alternate) Christmas, and then are flash-forwarded to the Bombers preparing to commemorate the big holiday, as aviatrix Indra Divine is summoned to Boston to visit her mother for a briefing on the recent, New Delphi coup. (This meeting further reveals a startling secret, which was forged with Indra's mother by the discerning Cardinal Mutongo.) Meanwhile, in regal Roman South Africa, the treacherous Senator Rufus Iturius encounters the lethal Pavol Lavoca, who holds information on the "missing" Princess Augusta Kumana and with such, a strong-arming proposal. 

The gripping segments are specialized and contrasting, but together they blend in a manner that's seamless and exciting in the best, Bondian fashion. Fortier's storytelling, in this respect, is as crisp and profound as ever, and Davis' artwork is nothing short of exquisite.

AN ALTERNATE REALITY: FORTIER & DAVIS' THE BOSTON BOMBERS (CONTINUES)

The alternate-reality genre just got one better, with writer Ron Fortier's The Boston Bombers #1, Vol 2, with magnificent artwork by Rob Davis. 

This Redbud Studio release is, in fact, a revival of a storyline Fortier fashioned years ago, featuring female adventurers who work for the League of Nations (a world power in Fortier's parallel scheme). For the record, Harlan Ellison enjoyed the premise so much that he even phoned Fortier to express his admiration, and in turn, Fortier has dedicated his long-awaited extension to the late, eminent author.

The Boston Bombers' foundation is, indeed, unique on several levels, with Christ having surfaced as a woman, in addition to being accepted by the Jews as their Messiah. Also, the Roman Empire never fell, having continued to prosper as a formidable force on the global stage.   

These prime components have been enriched by the saga's titular band: Indra Divine, daughter of the Bishop of Boston and a crackerjack aviatrix; Rocky Felicity, who holds an equal flair for piloting; Copper Feladh, a brawny, ace mechanic; and Gena Wilhem, a consummate scientist.  

For this particular chapter, Fortier directs readers to South Africa Rome, first per a vivid prologue and later in the wake of Emperor Tiberius Kamana's murder (under the ruse of suicide). The emperor, we learn, embraced a peaceful resolution to the conflicts that have risen with the League of Nations, though not without evident opposition.

The belligerent Senator Rufus Iturius is the culprit behind Kamana's death and now seeks the emperor's daughter, Princess Augusta, who has fled with her faithful butler, Graham, and the resilient Captain Julia Maia, a Catholic spy. The fervid chase creates an energetic opening that rivals the likes of 007, Lara Croft and Indiana Jones. 

 

Davis' artwork complements Fortier's spirited espionage to a detailed tee, with each panel rendered to the satisfying extreme, leaving readers with an intricate, storyboard equivalent.
