I adore writer/director Bob Kelljan's Count Yorga, Vampire and The Return of Count Yorga to the bloody max; and as such, I'm ecstatic over Arrow Video boxset submission, which commemorates both American International releases and their skillful, headlining actor, Robert Quarry.
The movies are presented in 4K transfers from the original 35-mm negatives (on art-adorned Blu-ray discs). The movies include audio commentary by Tim Lucas (for the original) and commentary by Stephen R. Bissette, David Del Valle and C. Courtney Joyner (for the sequel). Both entries sport interviews (one with actor Michael Murphy and another with David Huckvale on Bill Marx's volatile scores), a radio tribute from Jessica Dwyer and Tim Sullivan, radio spots, trailers, photo galleries, in addition to even further ghastly and informative delights.
The set also contains a dozen, double-sided, lobby-card reproductions, a pressbook reprint, an illustrated, collector's book featuring overviews by Kat Ellinger and Stephen Laws, and vibrant, double-sided-poster foldouts, accompanied by new artwork from Heather Vaughn (as posted above).
Count Yorga was (and remains) a significant force in the modernization of vampire lore (predating Dracula A.D. 1972, Blacula, The Night Stalker and Grave of the Vampire). Yorga's adult-oriented influence hasn't diminished one iota over the decades. The same goes for Quarry's acclaimed performance. No horror fan should be without this spectacular homage.
