Collectible Time: Moebius Jeff Yagher Cesar Romero Joker Kit

The wait was darn long, but well worth it. Moebius has finally released Jeff Yagher's plastic-model-kit tribute to Cesar Romero's bellyful-of-diabolical-laughs Joker!!!

Thanks to Yagher's remarkable sculpting skills, this 1/8 representation of Romero's Clown Prince of Crime hits the mark on all colorful counts. The face--that jolly, maniacal expression--is right on target: certain to inspire one to prance about and mimic the actor's contagious laugh.

The model acts as an essential addition to the Moebius Batman '66 line; and to liven the demented glee, one can assemble the Joker with either hands clasped or extended. Either way, one ends up with a pose that's unmistakably Romero. 

The kit runs about $40 at most retailers, and like the previous Moebius submissions, comes with a "rocky" base and an Aurora styled box with popping graphics ideally suited to Romero's classic characterization. 

(Incidentally, I pre-ordered my kit through CultTVman: a superb source for all sorts of assembly kits. Alas, my old stomping ground, Z&Z Hobbies is no more, but I'm grateful for all the fine Batman kits that I obtained there over the years. Ah, such dear Bat-memories...)

Collectible Time #87: Moebius/Yagher Frank Gorshin Riddler Kit

Moebius and Jeff Yagher (sculptor supreme) have done it again, with a marvelous 1/8 scale plastic, assembly-kit tribute to Frank Gorshin's Riddler!!!

This "Batman '66" representation is part of an ongoing series (see "Collectible Time #83": March '17), with each kit containing a "rocky" base that ultimately blends with the others in the set.

Yagher captures Gorshin's facial likeness to a tee, as well as the actor/comedian/impressionist's hyper energy. (The kit also comes with a handy Riddler cane, an alternate/masked head and dig that crazy box artwork!!!)

The Riddler goes for $35-$40 at most hobby shops and online sources. (I got mine from good ol' trusty Z&Z Hobbies, of course, which included my "loyal customer" discount.)

Next up from Moebius--Cesar Romero's Joker!!! Hoo! Hoo! Ha-Haaaa!!!

Collectible Time #71: Moebius Burt Ward Robin and Halloween Michael Myers Kits

Holy long-awaited Bat-kit!!! At long last, Burt Ward's Robin, the Boy Wonder, comes via Moebius.

Robin is the fourth in the ongoing  1:8 scale "Batman '66" plastic-kit series (see "Collectible Time #69", Sept '16 for the Burgess Meredith Penguin). The kits are designed to link in the old, Aurora vein, with startling likenesses to their beloved, television counterparts.

The model's pose is distinctively Ward, simulating his typical prone-for-action stance, thanks to Jeff Yagher's superb sculpting skills. (The model is also reasonably priced at about $35; I bought mine at trusty Z&Z Hobbies, of course.)

Next up in the series is Frank Gorshin's Riddler, scheduled for a February release, followed sometime thereafter by Cesar Romero's Joker and Yvonne Craig's Batgirl. 

Along with Robin, I also purchased Moebius' reissue of Polar Lights' popular 1:8 scale Michael Myers "Halloween" kit. 

The Chris White-designed model is really a lovely porch diorama, featuring not only the modified Shatner-masked Myers, but his kiddie clown mask on the lower-portion of the base, accompanied by a bag with spilled candy. On the porch step, one can install an actual, retooled (LED) light-up jack-o-lantern for eerie, flickering atmosphere.  

For those who missed out on this fine John Carpenter tribute the first time around, this is an inexpensive ($30 range) way to fill the gap. 

Collectible Time #69: Moebius/Yagher Burgess Meredith Penguin Kit

Moebius has done it again, with its third in the 1/8 scale Batman '66 model kit series (see "Collectible Time #19": Feb '15). 

This Jeff Yagher sculpted kit sports a phenomenal resemblance to Burgess Meredith, right down to his famous, waddling pose. It also comes with an earthy, penguin-adorned base, which complements the figure, as opposed to distracting from it. (Incidentally, Pengy can be displayed with his umbrella either open or closed. Cool! Oh, and dig that crazy, Aurora-styled box artwork. Neat-o!)

I bought my kit at Z&Z Hobbies (no surprise there); it runs about $35 through most retailers: a most reasonable fee in this age of overpriced products. 

Can't wait till the Burt Ward Robin makes the scene. (The Meredith Penguin sure took long enough to arrive, and if there's any criticism I have of Moebius, it's the constant delays. The company's kits are superb, but come on, guys, let's try to keep those promised deadlines. Robin was set for release prior to Pengy, after all, so what gives?)

Collectible Time #19: Moebius/Jeff Yagher, Julie Newmar Catwoman and Alien/Ripley figures for Valentine's

At long last, the Moebius follow-up to the stunning Adam West Batman styrene model kit (see "Collectible Time #12 - Nov '14) has arrived...Julie Newmar as Catwoman (a gift from my wife for Valentine's Day--hot damn!) As with the West kit, Newmar was sculpted by Jeff Yagher, and the likeness is awe-inspiring, from her distinct curves, long legs and purr-fect expression. (The model will stand roughly 9.5" tall when assembled.) What more can I say, except, I'm happy as a lark on a Valentine's Day!!! (Next up in the series is Burt Ward as Robin--can't wait!!!)

Also, my wife gave me two Funko "Alien" 3/4" action figures...the Alien and Sigourney Weaver's Ripley (Space Suit version).

My actual Alien isn't encased face-front, as seen above, but is angled at a side view, which due to its elongated head, would otherwise seem the only logical way to package it. No matter...these are two cool pieces, which were planned for release by Kenner in '79. Oh, well, better late than never!!!

Collectible Time #12: Moebius/Jeff Yagher, Adam West Batman kit

From Z&Z Hobbies, picked up the first in a developing 7-piece styrene model-kit series...Adam West as Batman!!! 

The kit is produced by Moebius, one of the companies admirably carrying on the Aurora tradition, and this particular representation holds an uncanny likeness to West, thanks the the masterful sculpting talents of Jeff Yagher. Once assembled, the figure will stand close to 10" tall.

Evidently, next on the agenda is a Julie Newmar Catwoman, with a Burt Ward Robin and Burgess Meredith Penguin to follow!!! Holy styrene kit, Batman!!! This series is truly a modeler's dream come true!!!
