I look forward to Michael Ferentino's "Exquisite Machines", a series where Bedtime for Robots dreams come true. Sometimes these dreams are harsh and cruel; other times, they're smooth as silk, but all in all, they're works of genius: the best forms of sublime escapism there is.
Somewhere within Episode #4's electronic corridors, my mind grew numb yet ever sharper for the experimental plunge. I wouldn't have had it any other way, and Ferentino delivered his hypnotic spell in spades.
Episode #4's installments consist of Soviet, archival footage (the neoteric stuff of "The Incredible Two-Headed Transplant" and "The Brain That Wouldn't Die"); the mad meanderings of a chilling composition called "Cloud Hole", in which the psychosis prevails throughout the frenetic, livelong day; and the spiraling, syrupy "My First Grave", where a deep, interim "death" awaits and consumes.
The mystical effects of "Exquisite Machines" can't be denied. The content is open to interpretation and therefore, personal discovery. Episode #4 is no exception to this artistic rule. I implore fans of the bold and off-center to give Ferentino's fanciful work a try. There's no way to exit an episode of "Exquisite Machines" dissatisfied.
