CASTLE OF FRANKENSTEIN: THE PHANTOM AT 100, THE BRIDE AT 90

Castle of Frankenstein #42 is a significant one, for it commemorates two of the incontestable, all-time greats: The Phantom of the Opera 1925 and James Whale's The Bride of Frankenstein

The double-whammy of Universal horror deserves all the contemplation and respect they receive, and Castle of Frankenstein gets major kudos for getting the jump on saluting each.

In addition to these titans of terror, Issue #42 covers Universal's sequels and prequels; the sensational Glenn Strange; the legendary Lon Chaney Jr.; Greg Luce/Sinister Cinema's special-edition re-edit of William Beaudine's The Ape Man; Vampire Over London; The Catman of Paris; Confessions of a Psycho Cat; Back From the DeadCrossroads; Fright; Play Dead; Mutant Vampires from the Planet Neptune; The Secret of the Loch; Spontaneous Combustion; The Monkey; Superman 2025; The Andromeda Strain 1971; East Germany's science-fiction epic, Colomea; cinematic Grand Guignol (Mad Love, Wizard of Gore 1970, Bloodsucking Freaks, Terrifier); "The Many Shapes of Horror" (Forbidden Planet, The Terminator, Fiend Without a Face, Ghost Story); and movies and television shows that flaunt the mesmerizing power of mystical masks (The Mask 1961, The Mask 1994, Flesh and Fantasy, The Twilight Zone, One Step Beyond and Lights Out).

As an extra treat, Mr. Magoo's imagi-encounters fall under the spotlight, complemented by Lou Russo's sexy cartoon strip, "The Terrible Tooth Fairies."
