WE BELONG DEAD #46: KARLOFF, KONG, NESSIE, JASON, LEATHERFACE ... LOON LAKE

We Belong Dead #46 is an epic (100-pages) release, catering to two of the biggest and best: Boris Karloff and King Kong, represented by alternating, front and back covers by Josh Ryals (for Karloff) and Alistair Hughes (for Kong).

For the periodical's Karloff portion, the emphasis is on the great thespian's career during the 1950s, catering to such titles as Corridors of Blood, The Haunted Strangler, The Strange Door, The Black Castle, Frankenstein 1970 and Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

In Kong's case, it's full-fledged Dino De Laurentiis, with all the developmental debates and decisions that forged the 1976 remake (including writer Lorenzo Semple Jr.'s Twin Towers modernization), in addition to the costume and robotic contributions of Rick Baker and Carlo Rambaldi.

Oh, and there's more, with articles on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequels (Part 1); a breakdown of the Friday the 13th franchise; horror, novelty albums; British, horror TV; Emma Dark's enlightening "Dark Corner"; island monstrosities; Loch Ness movies; a reflection on Jaws' U.S.S. Indianapolis account; East Indian, snake flicks; convention browsing; island haunts; seaside oddities; Curtis Harrington's Night Tide (with Dennis Hopper); Gregory Widen's The Prophesy (with Christopher Walken); Charles Laughton's The Night of the Hunter (with Robert Mitchum); Guillermo del Toro's The Devil's Backbone; Alan Clarke's Stars of the Roller State Disco; Gerry Anderson's UFO; and more

As an informative bonus, filmmaker extraordinaire Ansel (The Great Nick D) Faraj whips up a new, "Asylum for the Psychotronic" entry, detailing his highly acclaimed, supernatural fable, Loon Lake. For the piece, Faraj covers the real-deal legend of the persecuted "witch" named Mary Jane, along with the movie's stars, Kelly Erin Decker, Nathan Wilson, David Selby and Kathryn Leigh Scott, as well as the production's enriching, shooting locations. For any Loon Lake fan, Faraj's article is a must-read, and for those who haven't seen Loon Lake, his account ought to draw one's interest enough to do so.

Indeed, We Belong Dead #46 stirs a fascinating and fearsome brew to spark one's nightmares and above all, one's appreciation of classic, horror movies.
