CAULDRON OF HORROR #6 & #7: A DOUBLE DOSE OF STRANGE STEW

Thanks to the diligence of Dale at Comic Relief (Village Commons, Quakerbridge Rd, Lawrenceville, NJ), I now have the latest issues of AC's exciting, all-color, horror curation, Cauldron of Horror.

Issue #6 contains the blood-curdling "Till Death Do Us Part," "Fangs," "Mark of the Beast," and "The Beast of Gevaudan." Alessio Nocerino, Val Mayeric, William Broadbent, Eric Coile and Andrea Bugarelli conjure the vivid yarns and artwork.

Issue #7 offers "Isle of the Dead", "The Ritual", "Carmilla's Army of the Dead" and "Inside a Dream," brought to jolting life by the talented Enrico Teodorani, Francis Paolucci, Giocomo Pilato, Bruno Farinelli and Mark and Stephanie Heike.

Cauldron of Horror is a satisfying title, which captures the old, EC flair that so many of us hold near and dear to our monster-ized hearts, but it also reminds me of the Warren comic-mags that I purchased during my youth, e.g. Eerie, Creepy and Vampirella (and such derivative titles as Terror Tales) and then later down the line, House of SecretsElvira, Mistress of the Dark, Nightmares on Elm Street, Marvel Epic's Hellraiser, Bloke's Terrible Tomb of Terror and Ron Fortier's Tales of the Macabre. That Cauldron of Horror may no longer have a distributor (due to Diamond's demise) is disheartening, so let's hope that fate allows this terror-ific, torch-carrying anthology to continue.
