You were a towering and polarizing writer, visionary and Editor-in-Chief, with fierce ultimatums and unshakable opinions (e.g., killing off Jean Grey after she became the Phoenix) that led certain Marvel artists to flee to DC, but it's your extensive legacy that counts, and you sure built an impressive one.
Star Brand is one such example, where its tattooed, super-powered hero, Kenneth Connell, was modeled after you, and then there are your contributions to such DC/Marvel/Vertigo/Valiant titles as The Uncanny X-Men, X-O ManoWar, Secret Wars, Superman, Superboy, The Legion of Superheroes, Captain Action, The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-man, The Transformers, Archer & Armstrong, Shadowman, Bloodshot, Eternal Warrior, Harbinger and Magnus, Robot Fighter.
You were also responsible for the first, big Superman-vs-the-Flash competition, which influenced those spirited contests featured in the theatrical Justice League and CW/CBS' Supergirl.
Let the detractors say what they will, Mr. Shooter, for whom among us hasn't had a tough boss? You forged empires that made the 1970s & 1980s, comic scene a world shaker. If not for your persistent and adamant know-how, such would not exist, and to have been deprived of your unsparing command would have been nothing short of tragic.
