MAIN'S PULP FAN #8: FROM PAGE TO SCREEN

Main Enterprises' Pulp Fan #8 is here: a homage to pulp heroes of the silver screen. 

As such, we're served a comprehensive view of The Shadow's movie adaptations (from chapter plays to Russell Mulcahy's big-budget feature) by Will Murray; an assessment of The Spider's Warren Hull cliffhangers by Michael Housel; and an honest analysis of George Pal/Michael Anderson's would-be blockbuster, Doc Savage: Man of Bronze, by Dennis Kininger.

PULP FAN #7: FORMATTING BEGINS

Thanks to graphic-designer supreme, Robert J. Sodaro, and several, passionate artists and authors, Main Enterprises' Pulp Fan #7 is shaping into a towering tribute to Walter B. Gibson/Street & Smith's mighty mystic, The Shadow!

 

My contribution covers George Jerome Rozen, the most prolific of all Shadow cover artists. (Jim Main intends to spice up my submission by inserting many of Rozen's classic works.) 

There's also Will Murray's article, "The Shadow's Mercy", which caters to the novel, Buried Evidence, as well as The Shadow's climb from brooding overseer to veritable protagonist. This one looks most edifying and comes, of course, from the meticulous man who gave us Dark Avenger: The Strange Saga of the Shadow.

It'll be a while before Pulp Fan #7 hits print, but based on what I'm seeing, this one's gonna ascend super-high for its shadowy content. 

WHAT EVER! #4: A SUPER-DUPER CARTOON/ANIMATION SPECIAL!!!

Main Enterprises' What Ever! #4 (Dec '20) is a treat and a half for animation aficionados, consisting of 60 pages of fetching facts and tasty tidbits on select, cartoon classics. 

Among the ingredients, one will find four, informative articles by Will Murray on Gertie the Dinosaur, Mighty Mouse, Crusader Rabbit and Tom Terrific. Buck Oviatt dissects Fleischer Studios' animated masterpiece, "Gulliver's Travels", based on Jonathan Swift's allegorical adventures; while Mike Maloney pays special tribute to one of the most popular, children series of the '60s, "The King Kong Show". WHAT EVER! #3: MAIN ENTERPRISES' POST-APOCALYPTIC CELEBRATION!!!

Main Enterprises' WHAT EVER! #3 hits the post-apocalyptic scene with a big bang, spotlighting Kamandi, Thundarr, "The Last Man on Earth", "The Omega Man" and more!

Will Murray supplies "Origins of Thundarr the Barbarian": a comprehensive article on Steve Gerber's enduring, New Earth hero (and the 1980 animated series that shot him toward Saturday morning stardom), embellished by the wondrous illustrations of John Lambert, George Lane III and Michael Neno.

MAIN ENTERPRISES PRESENTS FANDOM WORLD: A STEVE DITKO TRIBUTE

Many of us still struggle with and ponder upon Steve Ditko's passing. It's comforting, therefore, when someone with sincere, passionate intent pays artistic tribute to the artist. Jim Main is one such commendable individual.

Main Enterprises' Fandom World (Vol 2, No 1) contains a walloping 78 pages of text and images in honor of the mastermind behind such stellar figures as Mr. A; Spider-Man; Blue Beetle; Captain Atom; Doctor Strange; the Question...the Hawk and the Dove. An enormous sum of Ditko's influence--the way he inspired other artists and how he sparked the imaginations of his fans--is captured in this issue, and it kicks off with Mark Ammerman's brilliant cover, featuring other legends linked to the superb artist/storyteller.  

The contents also brim with equal adoration, as one will find in Ammerman's epic article, "Ditko Diktatum"; Will Murray's stirring "I Remember Ditko, Master of Marvel Magic"; and Sam Gafford's cool "Sez Me!: Ditko!"
