In my worldly estimation, Robert J. Sodaro is a genius, a man with an aesthetic eye when it comes to mapping, editing and polishing any promotional cover or page. (He's also a renowned author, comic-book historian and creator of such satisfying sources as Hot Girl and Totally Hot Girl, Wulf Girlz, Girl Skout Wars and Agent Unknown.) His company, Freelance Ink, ensures that only the best comes from any commissioned assignment.

Many of you know Sodaro's design work from Main Enterprises' pop-cultural periodicals. Indeed, the imagery and essayed details found on and between their covers are pleasing, but it's Sodaro's intricate bracketing that draws one in. PULP FAN #5: THE HYDE SEED & PAUL ORBAN

 

My novella, The Hyde Seed, still catches attention, and for Main Enterprises' Pulp Fan #5, graphic designer, Robert Sodaro has fashioned one heck of an eye-popping advertisement for it, as one can see above.

I can't tell you how pleased I am with the results and can't wait to behold the full-page version in the actual magazine, which from all sneak-peek accounts, could be the best Pulp Fan yet.

In addition to Sodaro's amazing ad, #5 will include my article on legendary artist, Paul Orban, who contributed loads of images to pulp periodicals from the '30s to the '60s.

MAIN ENTERPRISES PRESENTS FANDOM WORLD: A STEVE DITKO TRIBUTE

Many of us still struggle with and ponder upon Steve Ditko's passing. It's comforting, therefore, when someone with sincere, passionate intent pays artistic tribute to the artist. Jim Main is one such commendable individual.

Main Enterprises' Fandom World (Vol 2, No 1) contains a walloping 78 pages of text and images in honor of the mastermind behind such stellar figures as Mr. A; Spider-Man; Blue Beetle; Captain Atom; Doctor Strange; the Question...the Hawk and the Dove. An enormous sum of Ditko's influence--the way he inspired other artists and how he sparked the imaginations of his fans--is captured in this issue, and it kicks off with Mark Ammerman's brilliant cover, featuring other legends linked to the superb artist/storyteller.  

The contents also brim with equal adoration, as one will find in Ammerman's epic article, "Ditko Diktatum"; Will Murray's stirring "I Remember Ditko, Master of Marvel Magic"; and Sam Gafford's cool "Sez Me!: Ditko!" (each filled with Marvel-ous tidbits and ample Charlton references). And as a lead-in, Main sets the perfect pace, detailing how the issue came to be, accompanied by other dynamic, Ditko-geared ingredients, including a hardy heaping of the man's amazing artwork.
