Rocky IV: Rocky vs Drago (The Drago Cut) has returned to theaters for various dates/times this month, hosted by Fathom Events.
The alternate cut was created in 2021 by writer/director Sylvester Stallone, employing different takes/angles to retell his tale.
Some fans prefer the 2021 version due to its more serious tone, wherein lighter scenes (e.g. Paulie's robot) have been excised in favor of more contemplative ones (e.g. Rocky and Apollo's relationship and further focus on Ivan Drago), but in truth, both versions are quite effective from an emotional vantage, though the 2021 cut hasn't had an extensive, theatrical release until now.
The Rocky franchise paints a powerful allegory of courage and honor. Rocky IV, in particular, captures the rift between left and right ideologies, emphasizing the need for compromise to forge a better tomorrow.
While the opportunity lasts, revisit the Rocky vs Drago cut. It, like its foundation, only seems to improve with each dynamic view, and on the big screen, how can it loose?
