LITTLE SHOPPE OF HORRORS #52: HAIL! GORGO THE GREAT!

Little Shoppe of Horrors #52 is a colossal one, featuring 270 pages that essay one of cinema's best (and most touching) kaiju movies, MGM's Gorgo, adorned by an immense cover by Mark Maddox and a Ditko-esque back cover by Neil Vokes.

The bulk of the issue was composed by author Anthony McKay, who covers multiple aspects of this inspiring, 1961, British feature, directed by Eugene (The Giant Behemoth/The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms) Laurie and headlined by William Sylvester, Bill Travers and Vincent Winter.

Conceived by Laurie, as well as Daniel Hyatt and Joe Loring, Gorgo impressed audiences with its heart and soul, and McKay exalts that precise passion, as filtered through the movie's many conscientious participants, who made Gorgo more than just another giant-monster-runs-amok adventure and one that reflects the power of motherly love.

To achieve his comprehensive goal, McKay layers his text with insights into Tom Howard's impressive, monster-suit enactments and the movie's intricate, miniature sets. He also bestows an historical overview on the King (Kozinsky) Brothers' production company, joined by respectful references on Freddie Young's exquisite cinematography and Angelo Francesco Lavagnino's haunting score, bridged by nostalgic, promotional materials, pre-production artwork (paintings and sketches), ultra-rare, behind-the-scenes photos, fan artwork, script segments and filming locations.

In addition to publisher Richard Klemensen's warm-up editorial, revered guest contributors supplement the volume, with Joe (Gremlins/The Howling/Piranha 1978) Dante's affectionate intro; Dennis Lynch's impactful, childhood recollections of the movie; Stephen R. Bissette's hardy tour of Steve Ditko/Charlton Comics' Gorgo series (with conjoining nods to Ditko's Konga and Bill Molno's Reptilicus); and Lee Kaplan's grand gallery of Gorgo merchandise.

On every towering level, this Little Shoppe issue grants an unparalleled view of Gorgo that one won't find anywhere else.

Purchase this great, Gorgo volume today before it (like Mama Gorgo and her beloved baby) bids farewell.
