FANDANGO PRESENTS REAR WINDOW'S 70TH

Fandango returns Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 masterpiece, Rear Window, to cinemas to commemorate its 70th, anniversary release.

Rear Window is a nail-biter of a tale, where James Stewart's L.B. "Jeff" Jefferies, a photographer with a broken leg, gazes from his courtyard window at the neighbors across the way, only to discover that one of them, Raymond Burr's surly Lars Thorwald, is a murderer.

The setup, which was based on Cornell Woolrich's "It Had to Be Murder" and was adapted to the screen by John Michael (To Catch a Thief) Hayes, inspired a popular, television remake, helmed by Christopher Reeve and Daryl Hannah, and its influence can be found in Steven Soderbergh's Kimi, the Fright Night movies and the beastly thriller, Abominable

In addition to Stewart and Burr, Rear Window stars the glamorous Grace Kelly as Jeffries' lady friend, Lisa Fremont, who's joined by Wendall Corey, Thelma Ritter, Judith Evelyn, Georgine Darcy and Ross Bagdasarian, aka Dave Seville of The Chipmunks.

Hitchock's direction is taut and absorbing, and Robert (The Spirit of St. Louis) Burk's cinematography brings everything to the lurid life (all to the movie's fine-detailed benefit). Franz (Bride of Frankenstein) Waxman's score is also a winner, lending much to the suspenseful build-up.

Rear Window will be shown in select cinemas on August 25 & 28. Be certain to get your voyeuristic fix.
