CHRISTINE TURNS 40 VIA FATHOM EVENTS

John Carpenter's 1983 adaptation of Stephen King's supernatural, auto classic, Christine, returns to theaters for its 40th anniversary via Fathom Events.

Christine is, in many respects, a companion piece to King's Carrie, spotlighting a persecuted youth who, through extraordinary circumstances, gains revenge on those who've belittled him.

Keith (Dressed to Kill) Gordon is ideal as the downtrodden Arnie Cunningham, who's new, old car forms a sinister, symbiotic relationship with him.

The supporting cast is also impressive (reflective of King's characters): John (Turistas) Stockwell as Arnie's concerned friend, Dennis Guilder; Alexandra (Baywatch) Paul as Arnie's unexpected gal, Leigh Cabot; Harry Dean (Alien) Stanton as deft detective Rudolph Junkins; Robert (The Keep) Prosky as disagreeable Will Darnell; William (Stryker) Ostrander as bullying Buddy Repperton; Malcolm Denare as his henchman, Moochie Wells; and Roberts (Deranged) Blossom as shady George LeBay, whose brother once owned the "bad to the bone," 1958 Plymouth Fury.

Though derived in part from King's extensive book, Christine exudes Carpenter's distinct, directorial finesse, making the movie an engrossing and chilling experience in its own artistic right.

It's hard to believe that forty years have passed since Christine's big-screen advent, and despite the lapse, it holds up well.

Welcome Christine's return on Sept 10 & 13 at select theaters.
