GOODBYE, WILLIAM LUCKING

Your portrayal of Piney Winston in Sons of Anarchy became your recent, big draw, but man, did you ever spread your wealth of talent in an explosion of fun-filled fare.

For example, you propelled the thrills in The Incredible Hulk (two superb episodes, at that); The Greatest American Hero; The X-Files; Millennium; Star Trek: Enterprise; Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; Tales of the Gold Monkey; VoyagersKnight Rider; ER; Baa Baa Black SheepThe Mentalist; The Pretender; ProfilerJAG; Walker, Texas RangerMission: Impossible; The A-Team; Murder, She Wrote; Hart to HartSimon & SimonMagnum P.I.; The Rockford Files; Kung FuBonanza; GunsmokeThe Virginian; The Young RidersThe WaltonsM*A*S*H and more.

On the film front, you supplied a solid helping hand to Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze (as good ol' "Renny" Renwick); Captain America II: Death Too Soon; K-PaxThe Mountain Men; The Ninth Configuration; Red Dragon; Hell's Belles; Coast to CoastThe Crazy World of Julius Vrooder; The French Atlantic AffairStripes; 10Ladykillers '88; Contraband; Erin Brockovich; Extreme JusticeThe Limey; False Identity; Oklahoma CrudeWild Rovers; The Magnificent Seven Ride!; The Return of a Man Called HorseThe River Wild; The Rundown; and The World's Fastest Indian.

You were a tough guy a good deal of the time, Mr. Lucking, but gentle when there was just cause: an all-around, versatile actor who gave us much to remember and even more to celebrate.
