R.I.P. RICHARD "DICK" EVANS...

You were one of those actors whose face was more than familiar.

Your Peyton Place participation (as Professor Paul Hanley) can't be denied, but you entered other television territory as well, appearing on The Virginian (The Men From Shiloh); Bonanza; Gunsmoke; The High Chaparral; The Rifleman; CheyenneWagon Train; Tales of Wells FargoLawman; The Iron Horse; Alfred Hitchcock Presents; The Fugitive; Perry Mason; Barnaby Jones; Mr. NovakLassie; Sea Hunt; and Star Trek.

On the big screen, you were also no stranger, taking significant strides in The Return of Mr. Moto; Macho Callahan; Islands in the Stream; Kidnapped; Synanon; Too Soon To Love; Going Under; The Nickle Ride; and of course, Dirty Little Billy.

Your spirit may have departed this earth, but it will continue to be rediscovered, remembered and above all, respected. Thanks for a life well spent, Mr. Evans. We've all benefited from it.

AIRSHIP 27 PODCAST (OCT '21): READY FOR LIFTOFF

As Halloween's spooky crispness descends, another joyful Airship 27 Podcast rises, with our amiable hosts, Ron Fortier and Rob Davis, who offer many tasty, New Pulp treats!

On the fellas' agenda is an overview Mystery Men (and Women), Vol 7, featuring the resourceful (and returning) Dr. Fix-It. This volume's high-soaring escapades spring from the talented Teal James Glenn, Eleanor Hawkins, Greg Hatcher and Harding McFadden, who grant readers quirky action galore.

The fellas also discuss George Tackes' The Great Chicago Conspiracy, which connects the non-defunct John Wilkes Booth to the legendary fire that plagued the Windy City. Talk about a clever insert into alternate (hidden) history!

Also on the discussion plate is the soon-be-released, hardcover Brother Bones' Grave Tales, which will include reprints of the Undead Avenger's first two collections! Wow!

PULP FAN #4: SAVAGE, BENSON, BRUNDAGE & MUCH MORE

Main Enterprises revs into full-heroic throttle with Pulp Fan #4 (Dec '21).

This issue throws the spotlight on two of the all-time greats: Doc Savage and Richard Henry Benson, aka the Avenger, with articles by Teel James Glenn ("A Phoenix of Justice: The Avenger"); William Murray ("The Lost Doc Savage Intermission"); Mark Lambert ("Lester Dent Memorial Bridge Dedication"); and the presiding Jim Main ("The Publisher Speaks!")

There's also an overview of Conan/Weird Tales artist, Margaret Brundage by yours truly, featuring facts of her life and examples from her influential career.

To add extra frosting to the nostalgic cake, this issue's bracketing artistry is nothing short of breathtaking, with eye-popping contributions by John Lambert and Kevin Duncan (dishing up some swell, Avenging inserts); Jim Ordolis (giving the Shadow ample light); Frank Hamilton (rendering a lively, Savage sequence); Scott McClung (supplying a bold, Spidery back cover); and Allen Freeman (kicking it all off with some astounding, neo-Avenger front-cover splash, adorned by Marc Haines' slick logo). Robert J. Sodaro also deserves mountainous praise for laying out (and editing) the contents in such a sleek, professional manner.

Main Enterprises produces the finest pulp-cultural periodicals around, celebrating a glorious past, while embracing a fanciful future. Pulp Fan #4 is no exception to that fulfilling rule.

Get Pulp Fan #4 by sending a check or money order of $8.25 (for within-the-U.S. mailing only) to Jim Main; 130 Wellsville Av; Back of House; New Milford CT 06776.

Lilith von Bloodworth is back with another spook-tacular Mondo Creepy installment!

This time our busty, spectral host presents a first-time runner: writer/director Eric Eichelberger's Ghoul Scout Zombie Massacre

The film is well acted, brimming of gorgeous gals and fast-paced humor: a cult classic waiting to be born. (There's also enough cool, VHS-styled effects, rockin' tracks and spiffy, sci-fi trimmings to keep all mad-doctor, undead connoisseurs sadistically satisfied.)

Lilith tops off the silly shenanigans with her superb, sardonic humor and tipsy trailers; and of course, she looks as fetching as ever: the ultimate drop-dead dead-chick of all time!

Check out Ghoul Scout Zombie Massacre now on Mondo Creepy TV. It's the ideal way to spice up your Halloween (or any time of the year) to the haunted max:

DARK FICTION #2: STORIES INSPIRED BY THE LUCIO FULCI DEATH TRILOGY

The Dark Fiction series follow-up to Raffaele Pezzella/Eighth Tower Publishings' The Black Stone: Stories to Conjure Lovecraftian Summonings (see March '21 post) has just sprung from the crypt.

The Beyond: Stories Inspired by the Lucio Fulci Death Trilogy pays homage to the celebrated Italian director's "Doors of Death" saga, which includes City of the Living Dead (aka The Gates of Hell), The Beyond (aka Seven Doors of Death) and House by the Cemetery

The 319-page anthology contains stories by Glynn Owen Barras, Andrew Coulthard, Richard Alan Scott, Sarah Walker, J. Edwin Buja, David Agranoff, Anthony Trevino, John Chadwick, David Voyles, Nora Peevey and B.E. Dantalion, with an informative intro by Parry Milton.

My tale, "Summer Urges", also graces the edition, which crawls from the eerie events of City of the Dead/Gates of Hell, a film I viewed in 1983 at the Quakerbridge Mall Cinema in Lawrenceville, NJ. Little did I realize at the time that I would someday contribute a spinoff to the odious odyssey. Ah, destiny; and thank you for carving it, Mr. Pezzella!

Fulci's "death trilogy" is stylish and nightmarish, charged with relentless, paranormal intensity. The same can be said of Dark Fiction #2's contents, which continue the macabre maestro's legacy in a most heartfelt (and heart-pounding) way.

Order a copy of The Beyond: Stories Inspired by the Lucio Fulci Death Trilogy in either hardcover or paperback at

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09JBQJ27R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And don't forget, Eighth Tower Records' Fulci music tribute (see Sept '21 post) is still available. The CD can be combined with the paperback to create one cool, ghoulish order:

No matter which way you go, you're in for some chillin' Fulci vibes!
