Collectible Time #90: Atlantis Vic Torry Comic Book and Billy Meier "I Want to Believe" Flying Saucer Kits

Atlantis has ascended to the occasion once more, with two, new flying-saucer kits, which I obtained at my ol' collectible, stompin' ground, Z&Z Hobbies.

One is based on the famous, 1950 one-shot comic book, "Vic Torry and His Flying Saucer".

The kit offers easy-to-assembly parts (well, the saucer connection is tricky with its twist-and-snap feature, but workable) and a LED set to give the craft a nice, celestial glow.

The model needn't be painted due to its yellow pigment, but one can recapture the gamut of Bob Powell's cover by adding red highlights. (The box artwork, in this instance, is worthy of collecting alone.)

When completed, the saucer measures approximately 5" in diameter: small, but ideally suited for placement among one's UFO texts.

The second kit is based on Billy Meier's most recognized photo, sharply reproduced for the box top with a popular "X-Files" slogan: indeed, a real treat for Fox Mulder fans.

Like the Torry craft, the Meier inspiration sports a 5" diameter and represents the classic roundness that most associate with UFOs. It's molded in pleasing white and like its companion, includes a LED set for otherworldly radiance.

Both kits include bases, mini-poster backdrops and go for about $20 a pop. They also prove that spaceships needn't require heavy detailing to be enthralling. In truth, the basic style of each demonstrates that less is more.

Nonetheless, I'd love Atlantis to tackle some "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" vessels. Those, in particular, would be amazing to behold, especially lit.
