TALKING SMALL PRESS COMICS: REMEMBERING LARNED JUSTIN

The June 2025 Talking Small Press Comics is a touching one, where host Steve Keeter recalls and commemorates his dear friend and fellow host, Larned Justin (seen below in one of his euphoric moments), who left us last month.

The episode even incorporates actual footage of dear Larned, making it a must-see for all who have called the man a friend, having enjoyed his warmth and pleasing, indie-comics analyses.

Later in the episode, Steve highlights several new, small-press releases: Mike Jones' Yeet Presents #65 (featuring a new Silver & Stream/Suzie Steam story by Shane Luttrel, Steve Shipley and Doug Curtis), Ken Baily's bold and muscular Mighty Energy Girl, Clark Dissmeyer's endearing Mushy the Mushroom, Ken Leach's clever Alpha Toons, John Yeo Jr.'s adult-based Jenny Dunnigan: Paladin #2; and a revealing overview of Steve Willis' comics in current circulation.

TALKING SMALL PRESS COMICS: STEVE & LARNED SHARE NEW YEAR RELEASES

A new installment of Talking Small Press Comics kicks off the new year, with Steve Keeter and Larned Justin introducing another extraordinary queue.

In this info-packed episode, the guys discuss Jim Main and Verl Bond's The Adventures of Clay Hitchens #2 (reviewed by Bizarrechats in Nov '23); Dale Martin's The Good, the Bad and the Sketchy; Steve Willis' Cranium Frenzy #25; Byron Black's The Steppenwolf Chronicles Archive Edition; Tom Fellrath's Heroes Now: Heroes Return and Strange Times: The Road Back; Chuck Buckner's perennial Pieman; and an affluent overview of Larry Johnson's Madame Boogala of Tales of Fantasy fame.

Steve and Larned's appreciation for indie publications knows no bounds. In fact, their enthusiasm is downright contagious, and one can tap it at

TALKING SMALL PRESS COMICS: MAIN'S SMORGASBORD & MORE

Steve Keeter and Larned Justin return with a jam-packed Talking Small Press Comics podcast.

Many wonderful, indie sources are covered in this installment: Jason DeGroot's The Sunday Jam Project (to which Steve contributed, and a frame from which can be viewed below); the Druid/mailroom-inspired Improb & Wonk; Larry Johnson's unbridled Horseman; Micah Liesenfeld's autobiographical AT Walker; Steve Willis' surreal Cranium Frenzy (featuring Topsy the Mystical Dog); Bill Miller/Tony Lorenz's epic-sized The Complete Jontar; the Heavy-Metal-ish OM (with various, top contributors, including Steve and Larned); plus reprints of Steve McArdle's fearsome Power Comics titles, Vendetta, Artillery and C.R.O.W.B.A.R. 9

The gents also toss the spotlight on Main Enterprises' Smorgasbord, to which Larned contributed some highly humorous bits. (BTW, I reviewed the comic in early November.) Steve and Larned really go to town commemorating the introductory issue's weird and wacky contents.

For the record, one can obtain Smorgasbord by sending $3.50 (which includes in-the-U.S. postage only), via Paypal, to Jim Main at jmain44@aol.com. (Also, please share your email and physical address when doing so, to ensure there are no snags in receiving your edition.)
