MR. LOBO PRESENTS CINEMA INSOMNIA'S 25TH ANNIVERSARY MARATHON, THIS SATURDAY

To honor Cinema Insomnia's 25th Anniversary (which takes place officially on Wed, 7/29), Mr. Lobo is presenting another magnificent, misunderstood movie marathon on Twitch, OSI74/Roku and Amazon Fire this Saturday night (7/25), commencing with a party preshow at 9 pm. The preshow will feature Sally the Zombie Cheerleader; Eric (Yella Fever) Sabo; devoted Insomniac, Edgar Sparingy; and filmmaker Tate (Pizza Guy 8) Hoffmaster, among other joyous guests.

Frankenstein vs the Creature from Blood Cove is the big headliner, followed by The Last Man on Earth, Plan 9 from Outer Space and Hardware Wars.

Indeed, that's quite a misunderstood cluster and one guaranteed to instill fun, fun, fun!

Our old friend Mr. Lobo returns for Retro Con 2026! The always well-dressed ambassador of B-movies, forgotten gems, and cinematic oddities is ready to prove once again that there are no bad movies- just misunderstood ones!

For 25 years, Mr. Lobo has proudly championed the weird world of cult cinema as the host of Cinema Insomnia, the nationally syndicated late-night movie show that's been entertaining sleepless horror fans and B-movie lovers since 2001. Today the show airs on 66 television stations and streams on Roku via Mr. Lobo's OSI 74 channel, proving that sometimes insomnia pays off!

Mr. Lobo has also brought his unique brand of movie madness to Cinemassacre, Angry Video Game Nerd, Hack the Movies, Movie Dumpster, Coast to Coast AM, Creature Features, and MST3K bonus features. MR. LOBO'S CINEMA INSOMNIA: BELA LUGOSI MEETS A BROOKLYN GORILLA, THIS SATURDAY

Mr. Lobo's Cinema Insomnia 25th Anniversary is upon us, and as a positive precursor (the first in a series of such salutes), our gracious host is showing one of the greatest, "misunderstood" movies of all time: Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (aka The Boys From Brooklyn). The 1952 oddity will manifest this Saturday Night (March 28) on Twitch, OSI74/Roku and Amazon Fire, with the preshow shenanigans starting at 10pm. (BTW: The historic contents are set to land on an illustrious, collectible Blu-ray, which one can preorder at https://www.osi74.com/.)

When I was a wee lad and discovered Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla, I mistook Sammy Petrillo for Jerry Lewis and thought that Duke Mitchell was an alternate costar before Dean Martin came along. Of course, I was wrong, but being that I couldn't read the time, let alone research the matter, I just went with the flow, nurturing my misconception. 

Directed by William (Ghost Chasers) Beaudine and written by Tim (Dead Men Tell) Ryan, the plot pits Petrillo and Mitchell, who portray "themselves," against Lugosi's mad scientist, Dr. Zabor, who wants to implant Mitchell's brain into a gorilla on Kola Kola Island. The headlining duo is chased by lusty, native women (Muriel Landers and Charlita), with Ramona the Chimp layering on much of the mush, as she falls for Petrillo who's happy to ape Lewis throughout every speck of the calamity. Honey-voiced Mitchell cuts in to share his breezy tunes, as Lugosi dons his supreme, sinister form. 

Despite the fact that Lewis wished to seize the flick (i.e. stomp it into oblivion), Brooklyn Gorilla managed to make the prevalent, UHF rounds, and because of its surreal nature, it now inspires further, misunderstood fun, thanks to Mr. Lobo, who parenthesizes it with Lewis-loving, MDA Labor Day Telethon, parody skits, joined by Sally the Zombie Cheerleader, Dr. Sphincter, Countess Bloodsugar (Jessie Seeherman), Dark Sarcasma (Penny Dreadful in disguise!), Dr. Sarcofiguy (John Dimes), the Horsen Milken (Reel 7) Girl and her nifty puppet, Professor Shrimply, good ol' Kogarilla, good ol' Romana and the pugnacious, Petrillo impersonator, Gary Blemish (who, if one can believe the audacity, pitches a Birth of a Nation rock opera), plus a number of surprise guests and fan greetings. To embellish this prolific succession, there are time-warping, nostalgic segments that cover Mr. Lobo's vast, informative career. That's right. This one leaps all over the place to ensure one's utmost, wraparound pleasure.  

It should go without saying that Mr. Lobo's Cinema Insomnia Presents Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla will go down as a wild winner; so make it a point to be part of the untamed hijinks this monumental, Saturday night!

MR. LOBO'S CINEMA INSOMNIA: SCREAMWALKERS FOR HALLOWEEN 2025

Mr. Lobo's Cinema Insomnia has an exciting, Halloween (October 31) celebration in store, with the main feature being 2024's Screamwalkers, a spinetingling, slasher salute directed/produced by Sean Quincy (The Ghouligans) King, which he cowrote with coproducer Bob Heckman.

The movie introduces a feline variant of Scream's Ghostface, along with a marvelous, gnarly mummy, dispatching a Ten Little Indians setup that leads a group of college kids down a path of Grand Guignol carnage. The movie's monstrous manifestation is all part of a ritualistic, Egyptian, fertility mystery, which exudes a fun, old-school context, enlivened by terrific effects, stylish sets, a robust score by Howard Chirlin and Creepshow-ish cinematography by maestro King.  

The cast also does a swell job delivering the jolts, as led by Elizabeth Davoli (as heroine CJ), Glenn McBride Jr (as Detective Joe Penny), Jason Seidl (as Max), Sasha Graham (as Faith), Celia Spero (as Olivia), Andy Rowell (as Eddie), Rose Stark (as Beth), Matt Weir (as Amenhotep) and William Puntarich (as Catface, aka the Copycat Killer), who are assisted by a group of sprightly others.  

For this special, Cinema Insomnia event, Mr. Lobo will interview creator King to discuss his fiendish feature. Halloween additives will embellish the presentation (to be captured as a lasting episode, live-on stream), stirring an ideal atmosphere for the spooky holiday, which will run throughout the night.

MR. LOBO'S CINEMA INSOMNIA: DICK TRACY MEETS GRUESOME, THIS SATURDAY

This Saturday night on Roku OSI 74 and Twitch (kicking off with a sprightly preshow at 10:00 and the main feature at 11:00), Mr. Lobo's Cinema Insomnia presents a great, pop-cultural crossover, as Boris Karloff goes up against Ralph Byrd in the 1947, B-movie classic, Dick Tracy Meets Gruesome. 

Directed by John (The Green Hornet Strikes Again!) Rawlins and written by Robert E. Kent and William Graffis, the adventure oozes of fun, with Karloff's titular baddie (abetted by Skelton Knagg's X-Ray) pulls a semi-Mr. Freeze/Captain Cool, using an immobilizing gas to subdue his adversaries. Byrd's dashing, master detective (along with his sweetie, Anne Gwynne's Tess Trueheart, and his sidekick, Lyle Latell's Pat Patson) counters the villainy with super-sharp know-how.  

For the movie's wraparound, Mr. Lobo shares his irreverent perspectives on the Chester Gould-inspired tale, squeezing in trailers, snack-bar inserts and a politically incorrect, Dick Tracy cartoon from the 1960s. To support the brash frivolity, the sexy Lady Shank'nstein pumps up the action with an amiable yet competitive visit.

MR. LOBO'S CINEMA INSOMNIA: MONSTER BASH & FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE SPACE MONSTER, THIS SATURDAY

June 2025's Monster Bash convention (at Pittsburgh's Marriott) was another macabre smash, and its fun and creepy ingredients were captured by director Aaron M. Lane for Mr. Lobo's special, Cinema Insomnia commemoration, which can be viewed this Saturday night, July 19 (with a preshow commencing at 10 pm) on Twitch, OSI74 Roku and Amazon Fire.

The convention footage wraps around Robert Gaffney's 1965, black-and-white, crossover classic, Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster. 

The movie uses an idea found in both Devil Girl from Mars and Mars Needs Women, in this case with the Martians seeking bikini girls for procreation. A valiant, android astronaut (i.e. a neo Frankenstein Monster) attempts to stop the abductions and in the end, battles a hairy, bug-eyed beast. 

The cast is a wonderful who's-who, with Playmate, Marilyn (The Brain That Wouldn't Die) Hanold as the evil Martian Princess Marcuzan; Lou (Pee-wee's Big Adventure) Cutell as her eager henchman, Nadir; Jim (Poltergeist 1982/Return of the Living Dead) Karen as the supportive Dr. Adam Steele; Bruce (Diamonds Are Forever) Glover (Crispin's dad) as a Martian crew member and Mull the Space Monster; and Robert (Lilith) Reilly as the man-made protagonist, Colonel Frank Saunders. 

As for the convention segments, they're bound to please, as Mr. Lobo makes the rounds, rubbing elbows with horror veteran Daniel (The Munsters 2022) Roebuck; Land of the Lost icons Kathy Coleman and Wesley Eure; Darkride Dracula Scooter gal Amy Vampi; Kevin Scarpino, aka Son of the Ghoul; horror host Doc Dread; off-the-cuff filmmaker David "Rock" Nelson; organizer Ron Adams; staff/vendor Dan Weber; Phyllis Floyd of Monster Fest and Creatures of the Naro; rubber-alligator curators, the Frick Brothers; Rabbi Joe and Father Mike; Bill Diamond of Bill Diamond Productions; Ghouldari connoisseur Gary Smith; and Cedric the Musical Butler of Terror Night Theater. 

This may be Cinema Insomnia's best, on-site offering to date, so tune in to absorb all the "misunderstood" frivolity. 

MR. LOBO'S CINEMA INSOMNIA: GIGANTIS VS THE SMOG MONSTER ON TWITCH (11/9)

For this week's Cinema Insomnia/Twitch presentation (11/9 at 11pm), Mr. Lobo offers the ecological-minded Gigantis vs the Smog Monster, aka Godzilla vs the Smog Monster/Godzilla vs Hedorah, written and directed by Yoshimitsu Banno of Ninja the Wonder Boy fame. (For the record, Gigantis is the alternate name used for Godzilla in the retitled, U.S. release of 1955's Godzilla Raids Again.)

The 1971 Smog Monster followed Toho's creature-bash classic, Destroy All Monsters, and in comparison is scaled down in its monsterized action. With Smog Monster, it's Gigantis/Godzilla against a living/breathing, environmental evil: in other words, a giant, spiffy monster against a giant, sloppy one. 

Though more basic in structure than its predecessors, Smog Monster's adversary, the morphing Hedorah, is, in fact, one of the big, green guy's most notorious foes, whose grimy villainy adds much to the movie's "save the earth" vibe. 

For the presentation, Mr. Lobo's bracketing is distinguished by a bodacious, Beg-o-Rama, fan-club, membership drive, with accompanying Toho segments to strengthen its thematic flavor. Thanks to Mr. Lobo's gentlemanly grace, the results resonate with both humor and tender loving care.
