HALEY HEAVYMETAL'S BIRTHDAY BASH UPDATE

 

Per Haley (Neon Fear) HeavyMetal, the Porky's meets Evil Dead inspired Birthday Bash is nearing completion. One scene requires a reshoot, but that should be completed soon, with final touches on the film following.

To bolster the production's quality, Birthday Bash is a star-studded affair, headlined by Eric Roberts, Brinke Stevens and Ari Lehman (young Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th 1980)! Not too shabby!

I appreciate Haley keeping backers abreast of the production's progression. Too often on such endeavors, funders receive nothing but silence after making their investments. However, in Haley's case, those involved always get the sincere scoop. 

I can't wait to experience Birthday Bash. I'll be sure to let Bizarrechats readers know when this ambitious labor of love is ready to view!

HALEY HEAVYMETAL'S BIRTHDAY BASH & FEAR FAM #2

As most Bizarrechats readers are aware, Haley HeavyMetal's latest horror production, Birthday Bash, starring the incomparable Eric Roberts and the ravishing Brinke Stevens, is nearing completion. Additional perks are now available through Kickstarter, which will go toward the film's polishing. Please check such out at the below link. The embellishments are affordable and quite attractive.

In addition to Birthday Bash, Haley is commencing with Fear Fam #2, which will be vampire based. I'm happy to report that I'll be contributing to this issue, as well. 

For what it's worth, one can contribute to both Fear Fam and Birthday Bash. The twofold effort would be well worth it, as Haley's slasher-salute issue proved a winner, and Birthday Bash, a bold mashup of Evil Dead & Porky's, will no doubt hit it outta the park, if her innovative Friday the 13th/Blade Runner mashup, Neon Fear, is any indication.

FEAR FAM #1 IS HERE: A SLASHER SALUTE

Haley HeavyMetal's Fear Fam #1 is now a real-deal, in-print magazine!

The issue's streamlined sleekness rivals even that of Fangoria, but the impressive workmanship isn't at all surprising since Haley and her skillful staff made this endeavor a major labor of love, albeit of the most gruesome kind. 

In this respect, Fear Fam #1 covers various facets of the slasher/splatter genre, featuring nostalgic reflections on its movies and characters; classic, slasher posters, Friday the 13th action figures (NECA's Pamela Voorhees and Sideshow's Jason from Friday VIII); Scream Queen of the Month: Amber Brooke; music/horror-movie producer, Jason Von Loo; a "Mount Slashmore" lineup; beloved, slasher kills; indie, slasher flicks and their innovators; plus book and movie reviews, with respectful emphasis on A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, The Return of the Living Dead, Jason X, Maniac 2012, Don't Torture a Duckling, Heart Eyes, Blood on the Bleachers and (in a piece penned by yours truly), the 1974, slasher insinuator, The Phantom of Hollywood.

As a splendid enticer, Haley acts as the magazine's lovely host, bringing a Forry Ackerman/Vampirella-like charm to the proceedings: a role that seems destined to continue, since more Fear Fam issues are in the works, including one on vampires. 

Yes, indeed, Fear Fam has made its historic mark, and I give Haley and her contributors all the credit in the world for bringing this quality periodical into macabre existence. Bravo magnifico!

FEAR FAM, KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN CONTINUES

This is a friendly reminder that the campaign for Haley HeavyMetal's Fear Fam magazine is still in full swing.

The initial issue is to be slasher-oriented (catering to the invigorating, VHS scene that supported it), with most of the magazine's content already completed. However, the issue's final touches need a boost to reach print, and its Kickstarter campaign can clinch it.

Haley HeavyMetal, of Neon Fear and Birthday Bash fame, and her talented cohorts have been putting together a horror magazine, with the first issue catering to slasher movies. The magazine is called Fear Fam, and it's nearly done, but the finishing touches must be financed.

Haley HeavyMetal, the mastermind behind the acclaimed Friday the 13th/Blade Runner crossover, Neon Fear, has another fascinating, imagi-endeavor in the works: Birthday Bash. 

The film is to star none other than the legendary Eric Roberts, along with revered scream queens, Brinke Stevens and Jennifer Stone, plus Ari Lehman, the original Friday the 13th's Jason, among other terrific performers, in a wild, Evil Dead-ish plot where demons (aka, the Ravenous Wildings of H3ll) dominate a college celebration.

HALEY HEAVYMETAL'S NEW ENDEAVOR: BIRTHDAY BASH HORROR FILM

Those who contributed to Haley HeavyMetal's Neon Fear, the Friday the 13th-meets-Blade Runner, time-traveling jaunt, will be pleased to learn that another labor-of-love production has been launched: Birthday Bash.

The film will be directed by Abel (Midnight Devils) Berry and Jenn (Neon Fear) Stone, and according to Ms. HeavyMetal, it will utilize a Lovecraftian foundation, along with the zesty, cinematic style of Sam Raimi/Bruce Campbell's Evil Dead franchise. 

In this frightful case, an otherworldly force infiltrates a huge, university party and guess who combats the demonic infestation? It's none other than the legendary Eric Roberts, as the dynamic Dean Hartford! (BTW: I've seen some test footage of what I'm presuming is the movie's lead demon. It's quite intimidating, with a lanky shape and ram-ish horns: a hybrid, for all intents, of a Deadite spliced with something out of Pan's Labyrinth and/or Hellraiser.)

There's no doubt that Neon Fear exceeded all fan expectations, and Birthday Bash is already set to exceed the former's high caliber.

NEON FEAR IS HERE!

When I was treated to photos from the Dallas-based, fan production, Neon Fear (produced by Heavy Metal Home Video and Laser Blade Media), I expected it would be good, but after experiencing the completed product, I can say with utmost conviction, it's a labor-of-love triumph. 

The film, written/directed/produced by Haley HeavyMetal, with directorial accompaniment from Jennifer Stone, is a Friday the 13th/Jason Voorhees reinvention, which in addition to paying homage to Sean S. Cunningham and Victor Miller's campgrounded mythology, incorporates themes from the works of Philip K. Dick and Harlan Ellison, with dashes of Evil Dead (Jason is a Deadite, as we learned from Jason Goes to Hell), Hellraiser, RoboCop 1 & 2, The Running Man, Re-animator and The War of the Worlds. This establishes a clever concoction of juxtaposing parts that spurs fear within a spellbinding, dystopic atmosphere. (Much of the menacing splendor comes via effects wizard/costume designer, Brandon Parmley, makeup maestros Lew Morris and Cindy Keith, and cinematographers Benjamin Ward and Remy St. John, who give the production a glossy quality that far exceeds its modest budget.)  

The premise: In 2049, androids, modeled after the supernatural slayer, Jason Voorhees, suppress a beleaguered populace that's influenced by a Camp Crystal Lake culture. (This is most evident in a splatter-drenched, fight-for-your-life game show, F13.) To add to the bread-and-circuses mayhem, time-trippers trek to 1984 to seize Jason to combat the ubiquitous replicants. Of course, matters hit a raucous pitch, due to Jason's brutal nature. 

The movie features the aforementioned Haley HeavyMetal as Pamela Voorhees and Blade Runner's Pris, and Jennifer Stone as Trish, the fable's scientific protagonist, joined by a competent cast of quirky characters who make the genre splicing as sardonic as it's unique. 

Also, as a result of its sleek direction (and Carlos Esquivel's spiffy editing), Neon Fear moves at a fierce clip, which pulls one in and never lets go. On this basis, I recommend the film not only to Jason connoisseurs, but anyone who appreciates high-tension hijinks. In other words, Neon Fear was made by horror-action fans for horror-action fans, and perhaps this, above all, is why it succeeds. 

Neon Fear should be making the rounds in fandom circles, so please be wise and catch it if it crosses your path. And here's hoping that Haley and Jennifer don't stop with this warm-up chapter. There's so much more story to tell and so much more high-tech carnage to behold.
