Baker is on top of his game with Issue #9, placing his Annies in a variety of sprightly scenarios, while keeping everything tied by an indelible and saturating sweetness. It makes this issue a pleasant throwback to happier times, and really, that's what Cartoon Cuties is all about.

ROCK BAKER'S CARTOON CUTIES: TIME FOR ISSUE #3!!!

Rock Baker's Cartoon Cuties #3 is now available for purchase from InDellible Comics. As with the previous issues, this one's filled with bubbling spirits and Cutie charms, as those amazing Annies of scenic Creek Bend once again grab the spotlight.

For this issue, we're served such Cutie personalities as Crissy Carrots; Daisy Poise; Beverly and Jeannie Baxter; Yvette Pond; Sugar Chestnut; Honey Garner; Misty Carter; Lois Teppert;  Mala Winston (who's tossed into a most revealing set-up!); and (my personal fave among the Annies) Minerva Mallen (joined by the wondrous Wendy Marco) in one of the craziest Annie adventures ever. (I, for one, will never look at coconuts the same way again!) 

Each and every story is molded to give one the giggles, while warming one's heart. It's all part of Baker's artistic and storytelling skills, as he succeeds in mingling sexiness with contagious innocence.

In addition, Baker's panels, enhanced by Marc Haines, Jim Ludwig and Rusty Gilligan's colorful assistance, do a stand-up job referencing comics of the past, when many were published for the sole sake of making one feel good with their identifiable concepts and vibrant visuals. How gracious of Baker and his collaborators to get readers back to those precious basics!

I can't recommend Cartoon Cuties enough. Issue #3 only increases my need to praise Baker's merry creation all the further.

ROCK BAKER'S CARTOON CUTIES: THE SHORT STORY COLLECTION VOL #1

As most know, I think the world of Rock Baker's Cartoon Cuties. His illustrated panels are an absolute joy to absorb.

Now, Baker offers a specialized volume (a walloping 258 pages, no less!) through InDellible Comics, spotlighting short stories based on his endearing characters. In Cartoon Cuties: the Short Story Collection Vol 1, Baker covers his Annies' intriguing hows and whys, focusing on their lives and loves in scenic Creek Bend. The illustrated yarns are woven with tender care and include pin-up sexiness and a hardy chock full of cheer. 

Baker's eloquent prose create an engaging atmosphere, allowing him to celebrate such burgeoning legends as Crissy Carrots, Daisy Poise and Minerva Mallen. The lovable Roger Ralphwitt is also on hand, as one can see from Baker's front and back cover images, pigmented by the skillful Rusty Gilligan.

Baker gave me the honor of writing the volume's foreword, in which I exalt the virtues of his cutie-fied wonders. To say the least, I'm proud to be part of this acclaimed artist's enriching endeavor.

CARTOON CUTIES #2: ROCK BAKER'S CHARMING MYTHOLOGY CONTINUES

I adore Rock Baker's Cartoon Cuties. I've praised Issue #1, and I'm now going to do the same for Issue #2.

The latest edition is as invigorating, humorous and of course, cute as the first, kicked off by curvy heroine Crissy Carrots (aka Crissy Ralphwit) and her dear friends, Minerva and Daisy for the surreal adventure, "Babes in the Woods".

Baker's exploit combines mystery with sci fi as it introduces a couple towering, green, glamour gals who'd give "Star Trek'"s  Orion slave girls a hardy run for their money, not to mention "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman" and "The 30 Foot Bride of Candy Rock".  

To offset "Babes in the Woods", Baker follows up with an earnest tale of redemption entitled "Undercovered Undercover", starring sexy she-wolf Mala Winston. Mala must engage in some steamy, decoy action, which is certain to grip one's eyes with its film-noir attributes. 

The sizzling Missy Mouse also makes the scene with "The Whole Story", stealing the show at every turn, but much the same can be said of Louise Beaumont in the sugary "Photo Fun". These chapters overflow with Annie appeal and give Baker ample chance to demonstrate why he's the creme de la creme, pin-up artist in the world.

As an neat, bonus treat, Issue #2 even gives us a "Pretty Poem", which highlights the adorable Doris Flowers. If this one doesn't put a smile on one's face, I don't know what will. 

In many ways, Issue #2 pumps up the melodrama and characterization to an higher degree than the first, bringing Baker's mythology to full, invigorating life. One can see the developing intricacies in his quaint storytelling, with special focus on nuanced scenarios and crisp, dialogue exchanges.

Above all, Baker is an amazing artist, as is evidenced by each and every panel of Cartoon Cuties. While his images reference the styles of Harvey and Dell, they're never so imitative to lose distinction. (It should also be noted that Jim Ludwig's excellent use of color enhances Baker's designs with ideal, loving care, and Rusty Gilligan does equal justice to Baker's joyful cover.) 

Bottom line: There's only one Rock Baker and only one, groundbreaking saga called Cartoon Cuties.

ROCK BAKER'S CARTOON CUTIES: CUTIE HISTORY IS MADE!!!

Rock Baker's Cartoon Cuties #1 is now available from InDellible Comics. Baker's lovely creations are always in demand, and this new entry has been gaining exceptional attention, based on the teasers the artist/storyteller has shared. 

With Cartoon Cuties, the prime characters are designed with ample anthropomorphism, but even with their forest-creature attributes, they exhibit physical, "human" appeal: Think along the lines of Disney/Warner Bros cartoons meet Benny Hill, but even that doesn't do justice to Baker's unique, crossover enticement. 

The comic's premise revolves around Creek Bend, which houses a toon studio (C.B. International Pictures), where its inhabitants (often referred to as "Annies") interact with human stars. In many ways, Creek Bend is a veritable, Hollywood counterpart, but (I dare say) much more talented and fun by comparison.

The stand-out character is Crissy Carrots, a pretty, bikini-clad, bipedal bunny. There's also her shapely, mousy pal, Daisy Poise, a cutie of equal stature. (In fact, she's a sort of Bettie Page/Marilyn Monroe equivalent.) Minerva Mallen is a major honey-and-a-half, as well: without question, the sexiest skunk I've ever encountered.

Then there's Roger Ralphwitt, a sorrowful wolf whose amorous intent gets him into loads of trouble. Pepe Le Pew move over... (Say, maybe ol' Roger should give Minerva a whirl!)

Baker's panels are a joy to behold, brushing vaudevillian cheer with pin-up vivacity. Jim Ludwig does an excellent job with the coloring and lettering, embedding a vibrant flair that recalls Dell, Gold Key and Harvey Comics. 

In addition, #1's stories present adventurous engagement. However, it's not the "Watership Down" or "Lord of the Rings" kind, where catastrophic contention intervenes. Instead, Baker establishes a breezy yet basic, mature mythology upon which he can (and will) expand.  (Portions of Issue #1 reminded me, in fact, of classic Archie Comics.)

I'm quite confident that Cartoon Cuties will appeal to all readers.  (From what Baker conveys, #2 and #3 will be just as great. Can't wait!!!)
