HEROINE HEAVEN #8: MAGICAL LADIES (MARGO, SCARLET & SORCERESS)

Thanks to Dale at Comic Relief (Quaker Bridge Rd, Village Commons, Lawrenceville, NJ), I finally obtained All Good Girls Go to Heroine Heaven #8 (and as chance would have it, an extra copy on top of that in the mail). 

For this compilation, the 1940s heroines are magical (and shown from their original, publication imagery for this post). The trio includes Russell Stamm's Invisible Scarlet O'Neil (an early Sue Storm with Nancy Drew traits), Bill Bydem's Margo the Magician (a lovely lady Mandrake cut from a Nightveil cloth ... er, cloak) and Don Pico (et al)'s Ming-ish villainess, the Sorceress of Zoom (a sexy yet sinister staple of Weird Comics), with each adventure presented in blazing color. 

 

As with all Golden Age stories, #8's are moral-based and as with all AC, lady-led editions, brimming of appeal. What can I say? I'm darn grateful #8 came my way. 

I sure hope Heroine Heaven #9 does hit print, but I'm certain I'm not the only one in that eager regard. 

AC'S HEROINE HEAVEN #6: PAT PATRIOT, MADAME STRANGE & MISS AMERICA

AC's (All Good Girls Go To) Heroine Heaven #6 has landed, and as expected, it's a dandy, with another trio of remarkable, 1940s superheroines. 

Enclosed are Jean Press/Chuck Winters' Madame Strange, Al Gabriele/Otto Binder/Elmer Wexler's Miss America and Reed Crandall/Bob Wood/Charles Biro's Pat Patriot (America's Joan of Arc), in old-time adventures that feel as good as new in their regal goals and achievements. 

The artwork and stories flow with great, pre-Femforce vigor (with the pages remastered for sharper vibrancy than depicted in this post), sealing this submission as a genuine treasure for any comic-book collector. 

Heroine Heaven #6 is available at comic shops and online sources nationwide. I obtained my copy thru Comic Relief on Quakerbridge Road, Village Commons, Lawrenceville, NJ: one's prime hub for all superheroic needs.

And get ready for Heroine Heaven #7. It sure looks to be another imaginative winner!

HEROINE HEAVEN #5: SPIDER WOMEN UNITE!

AC continues to publish some of the best, superheroine stories from the past in the heralded (All Good Girls Go To) Heroine Heaven. 

The fifth, all-color installment commemorates a trio of amazing spider-themed avengers from the 1940s. As such, readers are (re)introduced to Frank Borth's The Spider Widow, Marie Severin's Spider-Woman & Elsa Lisau's The Spider Queen. It's interesting that these quixotic crusaders existed decades before Stan Lee's seminal, Spidey creations. (Their influence on Peter Parker and company is, therefore, irrefutable, and as such, comic fans should be forever indebted to the preluding web they wove.) 

The eye-catching cover was rendered by AC publishers Mark & Stephanie Heike, which does a praiseworthy job combining the characters. This image alone makes Heroine Heaven #5 an essential for any Golden Age aficionado. 

Here's hoping that good ol' AC keeps these nostalgic compilations coming. And for what it's worth, #6 isn't far behind, with (as its vibrant cover conveys) another great team-up in store. Hot diggity!
