Fangoria presents one of the creme de la cremes, as John Landis' An American Werewolf in London returns to the big screen for one night only at select, Regal theaters on May 13.
The gory yet often good-natured American Werewolf hit big in August 1981 and was appreciated by fans for its wry humor, affectionate, Wolf Man allusions and breakthrough, special effects. It's only grown in popularity over the years, with its headliners, David Naughton, Griffin Dunne and Jenny Agutter, now revered as horror royalty.
Rick Baker's groundbreaking, practical effects are a huge reason why the movie struck a chord upon its release and why its mind-boggling imagery still exceeds most modern examples. (In truth, Naughton's bestial transformation remains unmatched.)
As an enlightening bonus, a never-before-seen interview with Baker will accompany the feature, in which the monster-maestro reflects on how he achieved his weird, Oscar-winning wonderment. To sweeten the pot even further, a stylish, American Werewolf patch will be given to all ticket holders to commemorate the event. Cool!
This is a great way to re-experience a 1980s, lycanthrope classic as it was meant to be seen. A snarling, good time is guaranteed for all. (Be sure to check your local listings for locations and showtimes.)
