THE KNOW-IT-ALLS OF FITNESS

A friend, who for this post I'll call Cindy, told me she's considering quitting her gym. She's made astounding strides in getting into shape, having lost weight and gotten toned up, but there's this pudgy know-it-all who shows up during her morning sessions, just before she darts off to work, making it a point to ridicule her routines and their results. Perhaps this guy's assessments are true, she says. The poor gal has a long history of insecurity, and here we have some nettling nitwit (no doubt envious of her success) compelled to burst her bubble at all costs.

For what it's worth, I have a comparable know-it-all at my gym. The flabby fool likes to stroll by and denounce my treadmill efforts, calling such exercising subpar. He also roams the floor bullshitting up a storm. It should come as no surprise, he's no Adonis and still ...

Somehow, someway, one has to evade these body shamers (ignore their remarks and/or tell them where to stick it). I "ghosted" one such sarcastic joker a few years back, who thought it necessary to critique my physique when I was nursing myself back after months of cancer treatments. See what I mean? It's the same ol' song and dance with these bullying blowhards.

I hope Cindy holds her ground. Perhaps, if worse comes to worse, she can continue her admirable efforts at another gym. For sure, she deserves better than to be put down by someone who claims to know it all about fitness, but by the subject's evident out-of-shape state (both in body and mind), knows little to nothing at all.
