Raffaele Pezzella's Eighth Tower Records/Publishing has unleashed two mammoth, H.R. Giger tributes, each under the title, Bio-Mechanik: one as a literary curation and the other as ambient music.
For the sake of the book, subtitled Stories inspired by H.R. Giger's art, the submissions come from Chris McCauley (also the curation's editor), Edwin J. Buja, Michael F. Housel, Nora Peevy, Paolo L. Bandera, RDJ Armstrong, Scott J. Couturier and Simon Bleaken. Each entry taps the biomechanoid horrors and wonderment that made Giger famous and as such, are designed to keep one on frightful edge from start to finish.
For the audio tribute, subtitled Aural tribute to the art of H.R. Giger, a plethora of provocative artists have devised a powerful queue of chilling sounds and moods, with the artists listed on the left and their tracks on the right:
1) Mark Hjorthoy ... Embryonic Nightmares
2) vAaristyma ... Biofusion Chamber
3) Red Stars Over Tokyo ... Mute Body Reconstruction
4) Oubys ... Bio Reptile Musik
5) Richard Begin ... Baphomet
6) Mario Lino Stancati ... Birth Machine
7) Modelbau ... Neuro-Mechanoid Dream
8) Mars Brodum ... Biomechanoid
9) SSHE RETINA STIMULANTS ... Unfathomable Space Grapple
10) phoanogramma ... gebarmachine
11) Nihil Impvlse ... Forging Revenant Flesh
12) MoCM and Schema Musicalis ... Tech UnderCut
This combination of organic/synthetic visions and vibrations (both on the page and within one's ear) creates a sensation like no other. In fact, the Bio-Mechanik set might be Pezzella/Eighth Tower's most haunting homage to date.
