NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD 1968: A CLASSIC MONSTERS OF THE MOVIES TRIBUTE

Without question, George A. Romero/John A. Russo's Night of the Living Dead is one of the most influential movies ever made, and as such, a  triumph not only for indie cinema, but movie-making on the whole.

Nige Burton and Jamie Jones toss the spotlight on this Pittsburgh-sprung, horror classic with a 36-page, historical overview of the movie's making and its enduring impact. (Let's face it: If not for Night, modern, zombie lore wouldn't exist, and that includes the ever popular Walking Dead.)

Not only are Romero and Russo commemorated within the issue's crisp, high-stock pages, but so are contributors Russell Streiner, Judith O'Dea, Duane Jones, Karl Hardman, Marylin Eastman, Kyra Schon, Keith Wayne, Bill Hinzman, Bill "Chilly Billy" Cardille and George ("Yeah, they're dead; they're all messed up") Kosana.

In addition to detailing Night's gritty, EC-fashioned frights, the authors share nifty trivia and "Quotable Quotes" that are certain to gratify the ghoulish submission's legion of fans.

This edition is so thorough and satisfying that I'd love to see Burton and Jones tackle the original Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead in the near future. How about it, my scholarly friends?

For now, Classic Monsters of the Movies' Night of the Living Dead is available at
