It's double-feature time from Alpha New Cinema/oldies.com, with Joshua Kennedy's "The Fungus Among Us" and Sebastien (Seb) Godin's "Slimoids".
Writer/producer/director Kennedy’s "Fungus Among Us" is a black-and-white nod to such frightening favorites as "Horrors of Spider Island", "Fiend Without a Face" and "The Blob '58".
The set-up features young beauties (Gabriela Pedraza, Jamie Trevino, Stephanie Marie Baggett, Stefanie Jo Saenz and Natalie Wise) involved in a kidnapping stunt and hiding out in a dreary house, where a fuzzy, alien growth invades their space. This leaves bad guy Dutch (Marco Munoz) to keep the situation under control, but as tough as he is, he can't stop the infectious spread.
Kennedy’s zestful and atmospheric direction is at its ebullient peak, as he weaves tributes throughout, granting fans another stylish, monsterized labor of love.

Writer/director Godin’s "Slimoids" is an ideal companion piece to "Fungus", with cute creepy-crawlies (in the vein of "Gremlins", "Ghoulies", "Critters" and "Basket Case"), which add to the fiendish, '80s style fun.
In this instance, the miniature monsters are flesh-dissolving freaks (created with feisty flair by Dustin Mills), dispatched by a deformed scientist (played by Mairead Traxler and voiced by Brinke Stevens). Investigating the infestation is diligent Dan Stewart (Ethan Clifford), but the deeper he plunges into the mystery, the weirder it becomes. (Performers Steve Walls, Tyler Levesque, Chris Mathias, Brett Kelly, Rain Tae, Stevie Lyons and Morgan Jennings liven the strange shenanigans.)
Thanks to Godin's coltish direction, the action is as fast as it is outlandish, giving viewers (and fans of wee monstrosities in general) a satisfying, exploitation experience.
