Here's a neat activity for all you precocious kids! Match the Aurora James Bama monster-model artwork with a character from "Flask of Eyes"! Not all the images reflect a character from my book, mind you, so think it through; let's see how ya do. Respond with a post if you're so inclined; you've nothing to lose. (Also, if you want to reminisce on any Aurora kits you once had, or still have, feel free to indulge; whatever you should choose to do, I sure would like to hear from you).
Hmm...so, Frankenstein is Benjamin; Dracula is Bernard; Magda, the Witch; Franklin, Mr. Hyde. Lon Jr. is the Wolfman; Lon Sr., the Phantom of the Opera. I’ll venture a guess and say that Stanley is the Creature; and Slappy is the Hunchback. Thoughts?

I must say, Stanley isn't a complete knock-off of the Gillman, of course (only reminiscent of such types) and Slappy sure ain't no Quasimodo. He's not the brawny, gallant type, as I perceive Quasi to be. To me, Slappy is a diminutive nod to Hunchback of Notre Dame wannabes: more in tune with Dwight Frye as Fritz in "Frankenstein '31" or J. Caroll Naish as poor Daniel in "House of Frankenstein." Nonetheless, I salute you for your overall accuracy and insight. Thank you, my friend!
ReplyDeleteI realize Franklin Beacon is based on Mr. Hyde, but Hyde isn't always depicted being an ape-man or primitive sort. It seems you may have had another angle on this one. If that's the case, would you elaborate?
ReplyDeleteHello, Hydra Island: Actually, a number of folks have expressed much the same to me, if only in passing. As a result, I plan to offer a post, detailing Beacon's various ape-man influences. However, when conjuring my character, it was Frederic March's Edward Hyde who shot to the forefront.
