I got hooked on Interview with a Vampire when I was a mere lad. In the process, I learned much about Gothic storytelling, in particular how to grab a reader via poetry and fright.
The Vampire Lestat, The Queen of the Damned, The Tale of the Body Thief, The Mummy (or Ramses the Damned), The Witching Hour and Cry to Heaven sealed the influential deal, and as such, you became one of my forever favorites and therefore, on a much higher level, a spiritual mentor.
Many have tried to simulate your style, Ms. Rice, but when it comes to saturating atmospheres and unforgettable characterization, you hold no equal. You are (and always will be) the undisputed Queen of the Macabre.
