BUNNY & THE INVALID SINGERS: FLIGHT OF THE CERTAINTY KIDS

I dig Bunny and the Invalid Singers. That's because Bunny and the gang know how to swing a good, solid groove, and through that groove, such peaceful, pensive influence comes.

The group's latest, Flight of the Certainty Kids, is an ideal case in point, which rolls of advents and aftermaths along a placating path.

To do the album's thematic servings justice, I'll divide them accordingly:

The advent submissions consist of the titular "Flight of the Certainty Kids" (a venture into time and space, where careful chords elevate one to platforms strange and unknown); "Buckled & Bleeding" (a build-up to an ambitious hope or paramount challenge: soft and sweet at the get-go, but then bang!); "Drumming for Daylight" (a sweeping composition that considers all the good and/or bad at manifestation's cusp); and "This is Happening" (a wistful wish for a spectacular smash as an anticipated movie begins).

For the aftermath selections, there's "A Sniper's Heart" (a salute of sorts for any completed Bondian jaunt); "None of This Happened" (where mollifying denial takes center stage beyond one's big fumble); "There's More Conjuring to Be" (a frenetic track that invokes the progressing passages of Jerry Goldsmith's Escape from the Planet of the Apes); and "Rebuilding a Boat on an Open Sea" (a time for taking the bull by the Noah-inspired horns, in spite of the cataclysmic currents).

The pervading tone of Flight of the Certainty Kids is rather like Morricone meets Alan Parsons meets Yes (and depending on the moment's slippage, abetted by Goldsmith's aforementioned, percussion), but it mainly mesmerizes as only the best magicians can, transporting one to higher than high imaginings. One need only close one's eyes and let the lushness invade.

With this said, Bunny and the Invalid Singers have created a masterpiece that should (and could) prove award winning, but Flight of the Certainty Kids doesn't require any such folly. That's because it's too damn exceptional to be mainstream, existing as its own emotional victory and therefore is worthy of audio absorption among only those of discerning taste.
