You achieved legendary fame as the Lugosi-esque Count Floyd, a fictional, horror host who always ended up with titles beyond genre expectations (a precursor Mr. Lobo, one might say). Though Floyd entertained us on SCTV, Cartoon Planet and The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley, you also flaunted your talents through other clever and surreal venues.
On the feature-length front, you dipped into Innerspace; Back to the Future Part II; Really Weird Tales; Blue Monkey; Phil the Alien; Tunnel Vision; 1941; Going Berserk; Used Cars; Johnny Dangerously; Sesame Street Presents: Follow That Bird; Snowboard Academy; One Crazy Summer; Club Paradise; Who's Harry Crumb?; Speed Zone; Heavy Metal; Detroit Rock City; Happy Gilmore; Stuart Saves His Family; The Wrong Guy; Slackers; Freddy Got Fingered; A Pig's Tale; I, Martin Short, Goes to Hollywood; I, Martin Short, Goes Home; The Santa Clause Brothers; Looking for Miracles; National Security; Family Reunion: A Relative Nightmare; The Don's Analyst; Home on the Range; and Anchorman.
On the small screen, you became a regular on Maniac Mansion (as Dr. Fred Edison) and Freaks and Geeks (as Howard Weir), in addition to guest-starring on Monsters; The Hitchhiker; Dinosaurs; Little Dracula; Puppets Who Kill; Phenom; The Louie Show; Family Guy; American Dad!; The David Steinberg Show; George Burns Comedy Week; Hardball; Morton & Hayes; Nurses; Ellen; Married ... with Children; The Wonderful World of Disney; Chilly Beach; The Life and Times of Tim; Dream On; King of Queens; Call Me Fitz; Traders; Rebel Highway; The Big Bang Theory; and onward.
You were rubbery, vigorous ... magnificent in all you exhibited, Mr. Flaherty. No doubt your comedic genius will grow tastier as the years pass, much like fine wine. Thanks for the memories, my compatriot, and above all, the unfailing guffaws.
