Peacemaker, aka Lt. Christopher Smith, has sprung from James Gunn's Suicide Squad, though prior to such, he's made his presence known in DC's pages. As portrayed by WWE's John Cena, the character now embarks on a WB/HBO Max eight-part series.
The character rather reminds me of A Nightmare Before Christmas' Jack Skellington and Evil Dead's Ash Williams in that he means well but often oversteps his bounds, blurring the lines between good and bad, which means he stumbles despite his big heart.
Cena's portrayal of this Bulletman-garbed misfit was effective in The Suicide Squad, so the gung-ho trailblazer will no doubt charm again for his eponymous series, which will explore the actioner's origins while forging a new, alien-based exploit, serenaded by catchy, heavy-metal tunes.
Joining Cena's (anti)hero is Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt (a limber lass with a surly disposition); Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, aka Adrian Chase (a murderous, Peacemaker groupie); Steve Agee as John Economos (a quirky high-technician); Danielle Brooks as Leola Adebayo (an eager-to-please good-doer); Nhut Le as Judomaster (a kick-assing bodyguard); Chuckwadi Iwuji as Clemson Murn (a Project Butterfly boss, original to the show and not of comic-book origin); Robert (T2) Patrick as Auggie Smith (Peacemaker's racist pop); and Eagly (a faithful, CGI'd pet), among other ostentatious personalities.
Hilarity and excitement are promised, and since Squad '20 didn't do as well in the cha-ching department as hoped, Peacemaker could revitalize the movie's exposure, paving the way for more calamitous, big-screen jaunts. I'm rooting for that, and if you're reading this post, you no doubt hold the same sentiment.
Peacemaker premieres Jan 13. (Peace out!)
I'm likin' it, and the opening-credits dance routine is pretty damn nifty.
