IT IS GETTING DARK BY IANQU

Adarcah Ianqu's It is getting dark is an epic, tramp trip: bright as the sun in its brave-new, vagabond dimness.

Thessaloniki dawn is its commencement: a composition that sculpts the sort of start that one wishes never came, but devours all the same. It's a cruel yet engrossing composition for the way it berates; yet regardless of its sizzling dissonance, it's by no means the album's most austere.

For example, sick bitch whore's birth more than lives up to its eponymous banner, and the pus of a utopia is equally warped and porous. Combining these tracks would shatter any meek mind, but then why would one of a such timidity dare absorb Ianqu's reformist works?

In other instances, physiological consequences surface, as in "bloodshot eyes", "powders", and "silly as undisciplined funeral". In these ticking/banging instances, the mechanical permeation spotlights downtrodden skids: One isn't part of the machine, but rather out of its loop, purchasing its placebos at a distant perch.

"In the soon troubled Jerusalem", the cranking picks up and cools down, its execution savage and portentous in its Goblin-popping scheme, invoking the predestined collapse of the creme d' la creme.

"Eunuch world" follows with a cosmic-sounding, allegorical whisk between the legs (a worst-case scenario made real), as is "penniless" and "dragonfly of worthlessness (the media)", which carry the implied, castration motif farther into the impotent alleys of misinformed shame.

Once one's ears are beaten to a giddy pulp, it's quite easy to dance among the album's more idyllic (though no less clamorous) tracks, "the idiot" and "providing poems {ae}", which work as wry examples of why-even-try, with "abreast" relaying a hurly-burly need to be.

No matter how one shakes its ingredients, It is getting dark pulls no punches with its cool, light-to-dark, hobo groove.

(Incidentally, for voguish effect, Ianqu lists the album's titles in gracious Greek.):
