RIP DOUGLAS RAIN...

Your efforts paid off on the great, expressive stage, spanning a number of eclectic and intense offerings. However, within science-fiction fandom, your distinct, smooth voice will always remain your iconic achievement.

It rose loud and clear in the 1960 short, "Universe" and thereafter became a distinguishing, pop-cultural factor as HAL 9000 in Stanley Kubrick/Arthur C. Clarke's "2001: A Space Odyssey" and its Peter Hyams/Clarke sequel, "2010: the Year We Make Contact", as well as Woody Allen's hilarious "Sleeper".

You blessed us with a gift beyond special, Mr. Rain...an achievement most actors can only dream of, and for those who've heard you, it will remain forever cherished.
